Palin was again RIGHT. See, I remember when they mocked her for the misunderestimate/refudiate bullshit, and the thing is, they're pretty good words. Hell, the dictionary people agreed refudiate carried a unique meaning and actually made sense. But when mocked by the media, Palin pointed to Shakespeare, and noted that Shakespeare made up words all the time. They howled in laughter and derision. Except what the HELL were they laughing about? See, anyone who knows anything DOES know that Shakespeare made words up ALL THE TIME; hell, half the shit he wrote he MADE UP. He invented the language as he went. Go to one of the Shakespearean Insulter Generators, and tell me you actually believe all those hyphenated words were really just obscure English and we just don't know it now. If you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you. In fact, Shakespeare made shit up. So what were they laughing at? I don't know, but I hope it echoed back to them; stupid dipshits.

In this case, the newest alleged insanity, Palin said that Paul Revere was in part warning the British that we were here, that we were armed, and that they were in trouble. The media howled again. Well, she DEFENDED her remark, and if I had known that I would have realized she probably knew what the hell she was talking about. As a matter of fact, it turns out she ABSOLUTELY DID.

But let's think of it at another level for a moment. You've got 9.1 percent unemployment, and that is only counting the people who qualify for benefits. So you've got some 37 million people right off the bat. But with so many people having had their benefits already end, the REAL rate is estimated at more approaching 20%. So NOW you're talking about 75 million people out of work and hurting. They are scattered to the four winds, all over the country, and they have endless varying levels of education and capability. So what kind of program, using non-existent money, does this dipshit think can be created to employ nearly a hundred MILLION people all over the country with all sorts of varying levels of capability and education at a federal level? Have they done some sort of study to assess the capabilities of the unemployed and to map their locations so that there would be a dozen or so employment centers in every state that take into account these people's needs and skills, and then employ them in some sort of make-busy federal work? The screening alone would take a year, opening these employment centers would...well it would never happen. You could pour a trillion non-existent dollars into that, and it would STILL never work - of course, you could temporarily employ the unemployed to BUILD the buildings (if, that is, you had union builders on unemployment who were available for the job - I mean, and of course you have to get permits and contracts and all the endless red tape of BUILDING things anymore) and they'd never be finished because there isn't enough money in the world. We'd have hundreds of half-finished or never-started buildings all over the country. Of course, it would be a sweet deal for Uncle Sam, as he'd own all that extra land when the dust died down, right? Why not? You might be able to fool the people into buying this, and Bernanke can do some "quantitative easing" (i.e. print fake money; inflation) to pretend the money is there, and you could trump the project from the rooftops and garner reelection, right? Are the American people still this stupid?

To the shitheads at Westboro "Baptist" "Church" protestors, who showed up to protest another hero's death. The whole county joined together quietly to refuse these assholes to show up and defile their homegrown hero in Brandon, Mississippi. I think they're all heroes.

A couple of days before, one of them (Westboro protestors) ran his mouth at a Brandon gas station and got his arse waxed. Police were called and the beaten man could not give much of a description of who beat him. When they canvassed the station and spoke to the large crowd that had gathered around, no one seemed to remember anything about what had happened.

Rankin County handled this thing perfectly. There were many things that were put into place that most will never know about and at great expense to the county.

Most of the morons never made it out of their hotel parking lot. It seems that certain Rankin county pickup trucks were parked directly behind any car that had Kansas plates in the hotel parking lot and the drivers mysteriously disappeared until after the funeral was over. Police were called but their wrecker service was running behind and it was going to be a few hours before they could tow the trucks so the Kansas plated cars could get out.

A few made it to the funeral but were ushered away to be questioned about a crime they might have possibly been involved in. Turns out, after a few hours of questioning, that they were not involved and they were allowed to go on about their business.

So, what, "God" wasn't on your side this time Phelps? Boo-fucking-hoo. You're gonna die in your sins, old man. Best watch out and repent.

Via FaithFreedom.org: The newspaper Asr-e Iran reported that passersby spotted two patients in a field outside of Tehran. The two patients were hospitalized in the state funded Khomeini Hospital. Despite being public and allegedly free, they were loaded in an ambulance and dropped in a field for not having the money to pay the bills.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzip! Rewind! Now I found this out while searching for the term; and why was I searching for the term? Because he already said EXACTLY that in a serious speech - I watched the video months ago - so I knew what to look for. Seems to me he would like there to be two exact same quotes out there so that anytime someone brings that up to him he can say "Sure I said it - just last week/month at the WH CA Dinner! It was a joke, duh." That...that's thinking like a REAL Chicago politician - it's just slimy enough. Covering one quote with another - I bet he was careful to use the same tone of voice, too. Wonder if he covered one birth certificate with another? Heh. Not that it matters; when your father is a foreign citizen, you do not qualify for "natural-born citizenship" status anyway. More people should have been focusing on THAT and stop worrying about WHERE he was born; we should always assume an ace up the sleeve, and please - from a guy who prints money in the basement, what would you expect? That he COULDN'T produce a document saying X, Y or Z? I figure assume he WAS born in Hawaii and focus on the fact that a parent being a foreign subject automatically disqualifies one from natural-born citizen, no matter where you crowned your head. The document is never going to satisfy hardcore doubters, who will find things wrong with it, and the argument about parentage is easily provable on both sides. Went after the wrong thing, birthers. (Not that I blame you; it seems like a good shortcut.) At the very least we know he perjured himself before the Illinois bar (he swore he'd never gone under any other name - hello, Soetero) and that he's used multiple SS#s which means SS fraud...with all those plums just out of reach why pick the one that he COULD fake?

When I read that they were adding controversial new "Q Without U" words, I knew some would relate to Islam, and naturally I was right ;) Anyway, here's the piece, with my comments.

Scrabble, one of the last bastions of grammatical purism in a world overrun by cell phone text abbreviations, is capitulating to the times.
The board game plans to add 3,000 new words to its official dictionary, including several slang terms like "thang" (9 points) and "grrl" (5 points) as well as pop culture touchstones, like Facebook and MySpace.

Oh FFS, "thang" and "grrl"??? NO! Fuck Scrabble. That's it, I'll never buy a new board or dictionary again. Also, Facebook and MySpace don't even QUALIFY for the game because they have capitals? Hello? WTF? (Why don't they add WTF?)

Turning the most heads is the inclusion of "innit," a condensation of "isn't it" that will earn you 5 points - and the undying hatred of any English majors who are playing along.

"Qin" (a Chinese zither, with strings stretched across a flat box) will earn you 12 points, while "Fiqh" (an expansion of Islamic sharia law) will add 19 to your score. Each will also almost certainly have your opponents rushing to challenge the words.

The push to make the game more relevant to a generation that's more familiar with "Words with Friends" is a risky one. While updating the dictionary makes it a more hip game, the move is bound to upset some fans, who have always taken pride in the fact that the game was never "dumbed down".

SOME fans? SOME? EVERYONE hates this shit. I don't give a damn what "Words with Friends" players think - some of us have been playing Scrabble for 40 or 50 or 60 YEARS and we've submitted to every bullshit change that came along. This is a step too far. Period.

The game's publishers say the additions make this the "most comprehensive Scrabble wordlist ever produced," but that's doing little to soothe some players' ruffled feathers.
"I don't like slang words at all, but if they are going to put them in we will have to use them," Jean Gallacher, of Scotland's Inverness Scrabble Club, told The Scotsman. "I think there is too much slang in the English language as it is, with the way young people are talking."
Let's face it: it might be fun to earn 12 points by laying down "blingy," but you certainly won't impress the person across that table that has just dropped "Quixotry".

Damn; I knew he was smart but I really didn't know he was *this* informed and intelligent. Look how every time they try to trip him up he knows EXACTLY where they're going, WHAT they're referring to, and has the rebuttal already? Like the bit about the alleged "school for the mentally disturbed" and he had all his ammo ready; or even knowing about "Hot for Teacher" when they didn't know what they were referring to. Love when he flips it and starts mocking them. Also I had no idea he was conservative. Hehe; great stuff. This Tom Braden guy is pretty good too.

I LOVE his first answer on this one. I HATE when they start laughing at him without bothering to answer - why SHOULDN'T that be on television? This was what Lenny Bruce was trying to do; to get across the point that if someone SAYS the words, it isn't HURTING anyone and probably does more to help than hinder (along the same lines as not having so many alcohol problems, or at least as many kids dying to use the stuff, in places where it's just no big deal and they get wine with dinner from the beginning.) Hell, that's what Cartman said in the South Park Movie when confronted about his filthy mouth - "WHAT DID YOU SAY?" "So what?" he asks, "It doesn't HURT anybody. Fuck fuckety fuck." But at any rate it's not the government's job by ANY means to control that, and it's not the music industry's responsibility in any sense, and it's not the job of television writers to safeguard some particular version of morality...wow. It's just weird I hooked up to this stuff watching some Bruce videos and then of course you get Carlin (now I find him an odious prick, but I wouldn't presume to censor him via law; I just wouldn't buy it or have it in the house) and then I get all this good stuff that, no matter where you stand on the issue, you have to admit makes you really think.

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolfe

Staying with the theme of reliably excellent movies I thought of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolfe. Taylor and Burton, together near the very end, when their real life mirrored the dark theme of the movie (booze and a crumbling marriage plus a bit of lunacy), both deliver fabulous performances. Of course Sandy Dennis is also indispensable as is George Segal (who keeps looking around wondering WHAT the hell is going on here! Not that that stops him from boning the professor's wife.)

The entire movie (except the last few minutes in the bar, where there's one tired barkeep) focuses on these 4 people, almost entirely in the slovenly house of the older couple, but most particularly on George and Martha - the tenured professor and daughter of the dean as they welcome a new young couple to the university. She's a pretty nasty bitch who plays head games with her husband (and viciously insults him at every turn), who in turn flips it around on her guests and plays head games with them and with Martha as well. When they finally throw down and admit that it's total war, to the death, you get frightened...it gets worse than what they've already been doing to each other?? What the hell are they going to do now?? Well, it all starts coming out in dribs and drabs as they work through the tissue of lies they've lived on for so many years and rip them apart. Burton is honestly hilarious despite the dark themes and tone of the entire production. Taylor is wonderful as the nasty bitch who spews hatred at her husband in front of everyone they know, and the bizarre part is that they really do love each other. That's the hell of it, even though it is funny. Through it all the booze flows freely and Dennis/Segal (Dennis in particular) are caught in the crossfire. Like I say that still doesn't stop him doing the other wife while his own wife is outside.

When you finally find out their most elaborate fiction, and watch as he ruthlessly rips it away from her (hey, they said total war and she's been delivering same all along), you will have laughed, been disturbed, pondered, and been damn glad you weren't George or Martha. Again, this is a dark story and if you haven't seen it, remember that going in - black humor is sometimes quite satisfying. C.S. Lewis might not agree with me.

Movies of Excellence - Spoilers

Ok, back in 3-D; I'm a fast healer ;)

Look, I'm very glad the independent film industry is doing good - really, I am. I thank Kevin Smith even if he did "Go Hollywood", Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Bill Macy, Welcome to the Dollhouse (which was so authentic Jersey) and even Adrian Brody and Milla Jovovich for Dummy (which is an excellent movie; high on the list.) Also to Trey Parker and Matt Stone who won't sell out, period - they like Brian Boitano and that's it. They HATE the MPAA, who pretty much banned their first movie, until people just demanded that they get their South Park movie (and man, was it funny - I've NEVER had an experience in a theater where every single seat was full and everyone simply LAUGHED for 1 1/2 hours straight - ever. We cheered at Empire, we cheered for Indy Jones, we cheered when Clubber Lang went down, but laughing for the whole movie? That was unique. And kids weren't allowed in, so no one had to worry about that noise heh.)

But let's face it, the indie industry also puts out a lot of garbage and weird crap. It's a gamble. So I saw this movie today called "Thumbsucker" and it was...weird. I wasn't sure what the hell they were trying to say. You've got Vince Vaughn as the teacher and Keanu Reeves as an orthodontist channeling Morpheus, an adorable 18 year old boy who sucks his thumb, the unhappy mom and the demanding and non-accepting dad. Lots of moody Elliott Smith music. The kid goes from thumbsucking to ADHD to Ritalin (and flying way too high) to getting stoned with a girl and playing weird games with her to...well I don't freaking know. Eventually he made it to NYU, threw out his pills, stopped getting high and was running through the streets of NYC. Was it good? I don't know. So I started thinking about all the other possibilities, of movies that are still reliably awesome, and came up with a few names. I've already mentioned Of Mice and Men (1992 version), but there's also O. Henry's Full House (1952), an often overlooked gem, and Captains Courageous (1937.) So we'll start with those.

Captains Courageous stars little Freddie Bartholomew set against Spencer Tracey, a group of other fishermen and Captain Disko played wonderfully by Lionel Barrymore. This movie delivers reliable laughter and tears, and really, joy. Trailer Here

Harvey Chayne is a spoiled rich boy who the other kids can't stand, who makes false accusations against his teachers (such as leaving 50 dollars for a teacher to make a test easy without telling the teacher what the money was for or who it was from - he accuses that one of accepting a bribe.) One of my favorite Freddie's lines was about how they had invited one particular boy to a sleepover as part of a plot - he asks "Well what do you want to go around spoiling plots for?" Well, his father is told when Harvey gets suspended, and what is so refreshing is that instead of protecting his precious snowflake, the father immediately apologized for his son and said he would immediately start spending more time with the boy to try and help him change. When his father takes him on a boat ride, the boy brags that he can drink 5 milkshakes if he wants because it's his dad's boat, gets sick and falls overboard. He is rescued by the remarkably talented Spencer Tracey, playing a Portuguese fisherman on a run out of Gloucester. Naturally, like in Sea Wolf, the rich boy is set aboard a tiny fishing boat with a rough group of men and has to spend the next few months with them. Barrymore heard his story, and said he couldn't wager a year's bread against a boy's yarn, and they would drop him off in Gloucester when they were done fishing. The boy keeps yelling, and another refreshing change - Disko delivers a resounding slap to the kid, knocking him to the ground. In amazement, Harvey says "You hit me!" and Barrymore says drily, "Now you jest set there and think about it." Heh; great stuff you don't see anymore.

Over the course of the trip Manuel (Tracey) takes Harvey under his wing and helps him overcome his rotten temperament and learn how to be a real fisherman. There are pitfalls along the way, such as Harvey tampering with another fisherman's line when he and Manuel have a bet with another fisherman on who would catch the most fish. He had just reeled in an enormous halibut and Manuel simply threw it back in, saying, "I no catch big honest feesh like you with a cheater. Go tell all the other feeshies we got no fisherman here!" When the other man, having hooks pulled from his arms, hears Harvey's apology he attacks the boy - Manuel, failing to smooth it over by saying "See, he apologized like good boy", goes medieval on the guy, saying "You touch that keed I keel you, see? ME, Manuel." It's a truly shiver-worthy moment seeing this sweet-natured well-intentioned man go from smiles and apologies to quiet, menacing rage.

Well probably everyone knows the story, so I'm not spoiling it by telling you he becomes a worthy boy and Manuel dies...when Harvey is finally reunited with his loving dad, he says he wants to be with Manuel, that he's got to. He was going to fish in a dorry with him the rest of his life. Fortunately the father is perfectly sympathetic and they end up a wiser boy and father in the end. It is a truly dramatic comedy - that perfect blend of both, that you don't often find anymore. Cuckoo's Nest did it, I think, but that was much darker than this story, which is moving and uplifting and musical right up to the dramatic death at sea. And it was truly dramatic - he knew he was going down but Harvey didn't - he thought they would save poor Manuel. He did end up with the hurdy-gurdy Manuel's father had left him, which had provided so much comfort aboardship. He even hears about how Jesus was a fisherman too, and that there was fishing in heaven. When Manuel asks him if he didn't have a song in his heart so big he just had to let it out? Don't you never feel like that? I still could cry, but the nice kind of tears. Disko's slap is in the trailer as well as Manuel's threat. The movie might be there too.

If you like bizarre humor (and I do) it's worth watching Chris Elliott's spoof, Cabin Boy.

O. Henry's Full House is a collection of O Henry stories played by a star cast including Anne Baxter. Particularly touching was The Last Leaf, wherein a bum who actively commits petty crime every fall to get himself sheltered in jail for the winter, finally decides to get his act and life together, only to find himself accidentally arrested and sent away again. A perfect O. Henry twist, classic. That one is melancholy and full of pathos. Of course you've got Magi and The Ransom of Red Leaf, which is a comedy. Well worth watching - it's usually shown around Christmas because of Magi and the Last Leaf.

Finally, Of Mice and Men 1992. Now I'm not particularly a Steinbeck fan - I find him to be an angry, bitter writer. (Hmmm...) Like Dickens. And I normally don't like adaptations too much (which is why I just listed three of them ;) ) and if I do, I usually like the original much more than the remake. Case in Point - the Poseidon Adventure. The remake blew; you could not compete with the original cast in that case. But this time I was totally won over by an excellent and tragic movie (you really have to be up for this one; it's very sad) acted by one of the best casts I've seen assembled for such a piece. And the fact is, much as I love Burgess Meredith, he just didn't pull George off right. You've got Gary Sinise (the most underrated actor I've ever seen) as George, guardian to the seemingly lovable, frighteningly strong retarded man Lenny (John Malkovich!) whose previous guardian had died. They are always on the road, looking for the next job as itinerant farmhands. Lenny is excellent at it, being so amazingly strong, but you get a hint right away that he gets into "trouble". In fact the movie begins with a woman running, torn and beat up, through a field and a team with dogs hunting, Lenny hiding waiting for George. Then they get on the road and it gets funny, happier, and pathetic. Lenny makes George tell him the same story every chance he gets - tell it George! "Guys like us," answers George, "are the loneliest guys in the world." "Yeah, but not me and you George, you tell it tell it" and George drawls, "That's right, not us, because we've got each other." He then spins a tale about how they are going to save up their money and go in together on a little farmhouse and Lenny will get to tend the rabbits. But he mustn't let the cats get the rabbits - to which he replies "I'd break that goddamn cat's neck!" They laugh together, they travel, they eat together - Lenny threatens to move to a cave in a particularly hilarious Malkovich moment. When they reach their next job, George makes sure to show Lenny where to hide if he gets "in trouble" again, and George will come for him. In a particularly foretelling moment, George throws away a dead mouse Lenny is petting in his pocket and trying to hide. That mouse ain't fresh, Lenny, I didn't do it out of meanness, as Lenny weeps bitterly. George promises to get him a pup as soon as he can, because they're sturdier and won't die so easy from Lenny's not-so-gentle handling. Bad move, George.

What's really striking is the bond they share - all they have is each other in the world during the Great Depression. On the farm, we find that guys like us really ARE the loneliest people in the world - they each sleep alone even though they're all in a bunkhouse, are mistreated by the boss-man, and we meet the *wonderful* Ray Walston, all broken from years and years doing the most backbreaking work. Walston has a mongrel dog that is also old and broken down - when the men start telling him he needs to shoot the dog, Walston says he can't because he's had him since he was a pup...they keep pushing, and Walston finally agrees to let them go shoot the dog. When he finally hears the shot, he curls up on his bunk and weeps, and so do I. He ominously hints to George that he shouldn't have let them shoot his dog, because it was HIS dog; HE should have shot it himself. George takes the hint.

Walston hears George's story and asked him if it was true about the house; George says it is. Walston asks if he could please throw in with them; that he had $300 to contribute. They were reluctant, but he convinces them and they plan to buy the house at the end of the month. Lenny amazes everyone (and busts the hell out of the boss-man's hand because he hit George, and George turned Lenny loose to take care of him; it's a frightening display of what Lenny CAN be and do without George's restraint) but then he does kill the pup, and inadvertently kills the boss-man's wife, the only woman in the picture. George had warned Lenny by slapping him - the only time you ever see him slap Lenny - and telling him to stay away from her, she was a rat-trap and that's it. But she was very lonely and pushy, and got Lenny alone by the end...and that was the end of her too. He pets women too hard as well, and he snaps her neck. Well, I needn't tell you that when Lenny went to his hiding place and George ran after him as the men followed, searching with their guns, that George remembers the lesson of the dog...he tells Lenny not to turn around, and Lenny says "Tell it to me, George, tell about them rabbits again" as Sinise takes aim with his gun. It was his dog, and he was going to put it down or no one was...and frankly Lenny's dangerous. In the end George is riding the rails alone, no house to look forward to and no companionship. Like I say, it's incredibly sad and you really have to be up for that one, but it's still a must-see if you love fine acting. Teaming Malkovich, Sinise and Walston like they did was just brilliant; I wish Sinise had gotten the Tom Hanks lead in Green Mile; he was much more suited to it. Which is another very sad movie but well worth watching.

So there you have some rainy-day entertainment, depending on what you're in the mood for. Like I say they're all reliably good and moving, all have laughs and tears, and all have excellent performances.

Random, Announcement, Movie review

Well, we all love a man in uniform.

Ok, nobody ever really believes the true story of a black eye (even the person who has one) but it really was a stupid accident. Doesn't hurt much but I look like Rocky yelling "Yo, Adrienne, I did it!" So in the interest of never letting that happen again, and since I'm getting too old for this stuff, screw it. No more booze. I'll miss it but I'll live. In the meantime no mirrors for me and lots of ice. Anyway I mention it because I might not be blogging until the world is 3-d again and the other eye isn't straining. Don't worry; this is not an emergency; this is a test. If it had been an actual emergency you'd have been alerted where to go. (Except when it finally happened we totally weren't.)

So...don't you think it would be cool if alchemy worked? I'm pretty sure it doesn't.

OK I was going to do a review of Of Mice and Men but not now; someone's sleeping in here. So I'll get back to it then go on a little vacation (a week should do it...sorta - actually it's already a lot better today, though it probably LOOKS worse. I really bruise like a grape. If grapes bruised. Maybe apples.) And the stupid things don't even show up most of the time until they're done hurting. Idiot bruises.

Am I the only person in the world who doesn't like poetry at all? Especially if it doesn't rhyme. It's IMO the worst stuff Poe turned out (his Scheherazade story was awesome, though). Ok I had a book full of dirty limericks written by Isaac Asimov and that's as far as I go. Ok and Martin Buxbaum's book (it's rather sing-songy and sort of shallow) and of course Now We Are Six by A.A. Milne. But that's it.

That Hideous Strength...

The pause that refreshes. Supposedly. So I was rereading the Space Trilogy (oh, only about the fifth time) and came across this introduction to the third story. By master C. S. Lewis. I mean, here you've got two fantasy books followed by...well wtf IS this one? The first is a trip to Mars peopled by fantastic characters and imagery, the second is even more fantastic. It's a trip to Venus that time, an ocean world. My BIL has never sold a painting except to me - and I bought it because it was to me the image of Perelandra, a giant ocean wave. So without further adieu, I present the introduction to the third book, That Hideous Strength, which does not follow as an act of pure fantasy...or does it?

I have called this a fairy tale in the hope that no one who dislikes fantasy may be misled by the first two chapters into reading further, and then complain of his disappointment. If you ask why - intending to write about magicians, devils, pantomime animals, and planetary angels - I nevertheless begin with such hum-drum scenes and persons, I reply that I am following the traditional fairy-tale. We do not always notice its method, because the cottages, castles, woodcutters and petty kings with which a faity-tale opens have become for us as remote as the witches and ogres to which it proceeds. But they were not remote at all to the men who made and first enjoyed the stories. They were, indeed, more realistic and commonplace than Bracton College is to me: for many German peasants had actually met cruel stepmothers, whereas I have never, in any university, come across a college like Bracton. This is a "tall story" about devilry, though it has behind it a serious "point" which I have tried to make in my "Abolition of Man". In the story, the outer rim of that devilry had to be shown touching the life of some ordinary and respectable profession. I selected my own profession, not, of course, because I think fellows of colleges more likely to be thus corrupted than anyone else, but because my own is the only profession I know well enough to write about. A very small university is imagined because that has certain conveniences for fiction. Edgestow has no resemblance,save for its smallness, to Durham - a university with which the only connection I have had was entirely pleasant.
I believe that one of the central ideas of this tale came into my head from conversations I had with a scientific colleague, some time before I met a rather similar suggestion in the works of Mr. Olaf Stapledon. If I am mistaken in this, Mr. Stapledon is so rich in invention that he can well afford to lend, and Iadmire his invention (though not his philosophy) so much that I should feel no shame to borrow.
Those who would like to learn further about Numinor and the True West must (alas!) await the publication of much that still exists only in the MSS. of my friend, Professor J. R. R. Tolkien. (editor's note: yes, Narnia was written on a dare between Lewis and Tolkien. Which only makes it better.)
The period of this story is vaguely "after the war." It concludes the trilogy of which "Out of the Silent Planet" was the first part, and "Perelandra" the second, but can be read on its own. C.S. Lewis, Madgalen College, Oxford, Christmas Eve, 1943.

How awesome is THAT? How much do you want to read it now? It's like Thomas Covenant, only better. (Had to quit the second time because the giant-ravers were hella scary. But if you like fiction, Covenant is a necessity. Lord of the Rings done by a cynical modern bastard.) And how much should I hang my head in shame by considering myself a "writer" of any sort? Yeah, I'll go sit in the corner now, blown away by the brilliance of a REAL writer.

Ok side note; I'm watching Paranormal Activity on Netflix and I'm calling bullshit already. 6 minutes in, she's knitting? And she's using these enormously fat needles. Do you have any idea what a loose knit you'd get from needles that fat? Pretty fucking loose, I'm telling you now. Nothing you could actually WEAR. I knitted myself a beautiful denim sweater and I used size FOUR needles...now that's a tad excessively small and I'll never do it again (aw hell no) but for a wearable item you can't go any higher than size 9 or 10! She's using like 15s there! What the hell kind of fat yarn has she got to use such an enormous size? I'm really overthinking this, but then so far as I know, the alternate ending is about ten times better than the one they went with. It's like an hour and a half setup to a screamer video.

Ok, ten minutes in. "Found footage" should not have a soundtrack. That's pretty much the point. How often do you wish YOUR life had a soundtrack, and if you could pick it, what music would you pick? I'm thinking Malmsteen but my life's not that hopeful. Or classical. Or metal. Ok forget Malmsteen. If my life had a soundtrack I guess it would be the Jaws theme. Or maybe Vader's theme. Haven't decided.

11 minutes in. Ok so the kittens have opened their eyes, but they all have this totally sad look still, as it happens. Like a blobfish.

Of course it's real. One of those monsters you only find on a deep dive. (Ocean, the final frontier.) So here I am with five blobfish kittens and they have a very devoted mom. I wonder what she's gonna do when I give them away. Will she react like Annie did and search for them forever, carrying a rolled up sock in her mouth and crying? Or will she rise above it? Guess we'll find out.

Also the guy wants a tip on the horse races. I used to be very good at picking horses at the Meadowlands. Probability is my specialty; my 9th grade teacher didn't believe at first I'd wroten the paper about probability. When he asked me if I understood it, I was happy to say yes. Um, yeah, I WROTE it didn't I? But one time I threw caution to the wind and betted on a 99-1 hunch. Escondido, I'll never forget it. I'd been doing data entry and my boss knew Springsteen. (They totally made plans to meet at The Stone Pony while I was typing. Springsteen was gonna have to wear a wig, even. Hey, them famous peoples is important.) I typed Escondido like a bajillion times, so when I saw the longshot Escondido, I bet on him to win. And HE DID. Went in with 20 (never carry money to the horse races, even if you are talented) and left with a hundred. Pretty freaking sweet. We tripped for a whole week on that money.

Ok so it's a personal post. Sue me.

So here I am as of last night, all set and ready to quite literally Go Galt like some of our friends have already done. I got nothing to lose here. Yes, I'm a pessimist. Well you know what sometimes happens? Sometimes shit changes out of nowhere.

I'm a panicker. Well, not usually full blown panic attacks like it used to be - I think I used up a lifetime's supply of adrenaline during the great panic of, what, 2002? (24 hour panic attack - completely unsustainable.) One thing about being a worrier, you like to spread it around. Why aren't these people around me scared? Must remedy that immediately. They shouldn't be content when I'm freaking out. How can he SLEEP? Is he insane? He should be kept awake worrying.

Anyway, so I was gonna unpledge and tip the fuck out the back door. Alone or with company, didn't much matter. I had a higher purpose, though, so it's ok. Then suddenly, today I find myself confronted with possibility. And...it came at the last minute. I haven't been confronted with possibility for a long fucking time. Hope is a very hard thing for me, and suddenly this ray breaks through against all odds. You may tell me there's no God, but...damn. Yeah, there really is. Providence is alive and living. Sure I'll find plenty to worry about, always have, but...there's this ray. And we'll see, won't we?

Guess my final stand may take place right here after all. How can a final stand take place in Jersey?

These aren't our kittens; but it looks almost like them. And they're at the same stage. Ours are cuter.

Ok; bile out of system, thanks for your patience.

All 5 little kitties are doing just fine; they were exceptionally tiny (like the size of mice) because she is a very small cat and there were five of them and they don't SEEM any bigger, just a bit plumper. But it's REALLY adorable (I can't get pictures yet because my good camera went missing many months ago out of nowhere and the one we have needs really bright light; which neither mom nor the babies wants right now) because while their faces don't look right yet, nor their little chicken legs, their bodies and tails are just like these TINY little perfect H0 model cats; little teeny tiny stripes one of them has all down its body right down to the raccoon tail (but grey/dark grey not rust).

And on two of them it looks like just the very inside corners of the eyes are starting to open. If they actually get mobile and aren't much bigger...well jeez, they're gonna get creamed; they better grow. Even if it would be hilarious; they're like hamsters or something. But as I suspected, she's a very very good mama and they are quite content.

Only thing is our big giant old tomcat...first time she came out of the closet to eat and drink, he hissed at her. And he's been hissing at her ever since. We've scolded him and yeah, I gave him a swat at the haunch, a light one - he knows he's being bad and he just gets really pissy with ME then. Oh he wouldn't dare hiss, but he gives me the stinkeye. And my husband has tried too; it's quite obvious the cat knows what he's being scolded for and he just gets pissy with us. But it's sad, because she just looks up at us like, "Why is he doing that? I didn't do anything!" He'll even stop, sniff at her, then hiss again. Bastard. He won't attack or anything; he's never killed anything in his life much less fought with anything. Actually, when he goes outside the birds divebomb him and all he does is look up and start talking to them. True story; only thing he ever "killed"- I'm thinking he all of a sudden after a year or two killed something and that seemed weird. He's walking up to the house with something dark and fuzzy in his mouth. Turned out to be a glove. Well, he brought it home, anyway. Now this girl kitty, she was like 3 months old when she started killing. Brought the dam thing right in the house and started playing with it. I was like uh, no. Not in here. So I'm not worried he's gonna hurt them; but normally he likes to play with the other animals (he played with my dog; or he tried; the dog was terrified of him. Well the cat was like 3 times his size) so I was hoping he'd play with the little guys too. Well I'm sure they'll all work it out, but I don't like to see him unhappy and making her wonder what's wrong. Ah well, they're gonna be so cute when they open their eyes and get mobile. And right now it's just fun to check out their little colors and stripes and watch them for a few minutes. She likes more privacy than the last mama cat we had; but no problem.

And after much expensive intervention (which I'm sure didn't cost you a dime in premiums or expenses; thus we could ALL afford it) you lived after all and you were glad? Oddly, I just got done spending two years in shipping/receiving for a large warehouse - we didn't have many pilots coming in to get their paperwork signed; it was all truck drivers. Stupid regressive company. And what president and vice president have recently been going on and on and on about how the key to the future is high-speed trains? Hmm...I can't quite remember who said it...

When I was 6, my Aunt Martha brought me to Chicago to attend the great Railroad Fair of 1948, at which the nation’s rail companies celebrated the wonders that were on the way. They didn’t quite foresee mass air transportation. "Atlas Shrugged" seems to buy into the fair’s glowing vision of the future of trains.

So do a certain president and vice president. Their names still escape me.

Rarely, perhaps never, has television news covered the laying of new railroad track with the breathless urgency of the news channels shown in this movie.

Now here's where I stop and let you in on something; there's a reason for that. See, a thousand page book that is not just a story, not just an economics lesson but also a philosophy involves a lot of EXPOSITION. And it's very difficult to translate that exposition into another media, another format, like film. I think it's quite a clever idea to do it using the news. Especially after the collective four year orgasm we've had to watch in the media concerning a certain president whose name still escapes me.

It would help if it were like, you know, entertaining?
The movie is constructed of a few kinds of scenes: (1) People sipping their drinks in clubby surroundings and exchanging dialogue that sounds like corporate lingo; (2) railroads, and lots of ’em; (3) limousines driving through cities in ruin and arriving at ornate buildings; (4) city skylines; (5) the beauties of Colorado. There is also a love scene, which is shown not merely from the waist up but from the ears up. The man keeps his shirt on. This may be disappointing for libertarians, who I believe enjoy rumpy-pumpy as much as anyone.

See, I happen to know something concerning Ayn Rand and city skylines; that just tells me the people behind this film really GOT it. Ayn Rand did not believe in building memorials. She believed that the NY Skyline WAS our memorial. So, win.

Oh, and there is Wisconsin. Dagny and Hank ride blissfully in Taggart’s new high-speed train, and then Hank suggests they take a trip to Wisconsin, where the state’s policies caused the suppression of an engine that runs on the ozone in the air, or something (the film’s detailed explanation won’t clear this up). They decide to drive there. That’s when you’ll enjoy the beautiful landscape photography of the deserts of Wisconsin. My advice to the filmmakers: If you want to use a desert, why not just refer to Wisconsin as "New Mexico"?

Um...yeah I could see where that would really annoy...what? See, you're failing in even the rudimentary aspects of your profession here. This film has been optioned for a long long time. Many years. The last time they tried to make it their female lead (Angelina Jolie) had to drop out; there have been millions spent in other attempts. The option was going to run out in TWO MONTHS, so the filmmaker had two MONTHS in which to get the screenplay written, gather the money, select a cast and start production or he would have lost it altogether and the tens of millions he has spent. So, like the good little sheeple you are, instead of rewarding the fact that these people have pulled off a spectacular feat - an Herculean feat, one which all the other reviewers are lauding as something that was impossible, but pulled off spectacularly, you choose to...gee, you choose to punish achievement don't you? Good boy! Now roll over play dead. No, I won't scratch your tummy.

"Atlas Shrugged" closes with a title card saying, "End of Part 1." Frequently throughout the film, characters repeat the phrase, "Who is John Galt?" Well they might ask. A man in black, always shot in shadow, is apparently John Galt. If you want to get a good look at him and find out why everybody is asking, I hope you can find out in Part 2. I don’t think you can hold out for Part 3.

Well most of us already know - this story has been around for 50+ years and "going Galt" is part of a pretty familiar lexicon even to people who haven't read it. And honestly he wasn't supposed to make an appearance until part 3, but they have to give us a LITTLE something, don't they? Call it an Easter Egg. And I'll call your review a big fat juicy turd. No, I don't have to see the movie first; see, we've already established one can pronounce judgment without understanding, so there it is.

Atlas Shrugged is out today, if anyone but anyone gets to go see it, I want a report on my desk by the morning please! I can't get out until probably next Thursday, unfortunately - shame, because the cinematography looked excellent and I'd like to see it on the biggest screen there is (they'll be moving it soon enough to the tiny pissant theater sections) plus I haven't been to the movies since Mamma Mia. I just can't see missing this one. I've never read the book so I'm not going to be sitting there complaining about how they ruined it like I do with any other book-to-movie. I don't want spoilers necessarily, but I'd like to know how far they get in the story (like do they get to Hank Rearden's Trial or not?), how many more installments it's going to take, how the acting was, etc. Anything you want to tell me - actually I don't mind spoilers; if you've read the book, all the better. You can tell me if it's way off or if it's unapologetically the same story. I'm truly hoping the latter!

FWIW I reject aspects of Objectivism as morally repugnant philosophy; that doesn't make the entire concept wrong. The last economics movie was Beautiful Mind with Russell Crowe and it sucked (it wasn't true to what he actually developed.) Plus I've talked to that guy - the Princeton guy Crowe portrayed - John Forbes Nash; he's a jerk. He really thinks he came up with something when in fact the only practical application has been to gaming programming. Guy can NOT take criticism.

I'm reading that they got Shrugged *right* and that it's not cheesy, but stylish and excellent. That's what I'm talking about. I also love that they went with people that I've never heard of; are they unknowns? For the most part? That is perfect; that way no one's big personality/ego gets in the way of the story. A bold move, reminiscent of Star Wars. Which also changed the world :)

See, this is why I wanted Fred Thompson. Well, in addition to the fact that he won the economic primary debate hands down. I know, I know, he's controversial even among conservatives but everyone is. But if you're going to end up side by side with this Putin guy in a photo op you're gonna have to have a little bit more than jugears and a teleprompter. At the least, Fred would have met this guy's stare and never blinked. He had the presidential *presence* about him; haven't seen that kind of presence since perhaps Nixon. (Some people would say Roosevelt and they're probably right, but I can't speak from experience there; I'm a tad young for that. Old as I may feel and be.) Is it really too much to expect that a president have a strong persona and fill a room just by being in it? I mean, we're supposed to be talking about the leader/figurehead of the free WORLD here. Hell, Eminem has a stronger stage presence than the candidates in this last presidential election. It's that whole eye of the tiger thing. When you go up against the guy who says "I must break you" you gotta have either someone very warm and genuine like Palin to counterpoint or someone who's BIG (metaphorically) and unafraid like Reagan or Fred.

I propose that we start a campaign to bring Putin over here and woo him with promises of whale hunts and bears to wrestle and Judo cage matches if he'll sit in the next two years for us so we can have someone who doesn't come across like a tiny little appeasing scaredy-cat. At least I'd tune in to watch the guy, even if I don't understand a word he says. Obama's a college guy; he can translate for us. I have got to get my remote. I suddenly tuned my ears in to hear Jon Stewart playing a clip of some guy saying "So how do we reduce the deficit? By cutting spending." Put up the graph, guys..." points to graph, "Getting rid of the Bush tax cuts!" and suddenly the high climbing debt levels back down to 1980 levels or wherever it started. Oh. my. God. You raise taxes (because these are not cuts anymore; they're *rates*) and then assume that profits and jobs and tax revenues are going to remain at their current levels (and even rise)?? IT DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY. Business-killing, job-killing tax increases actually kill, you know, businesses and jobs...thus your rates may increase and your revenues go DOWN. Haven't been able to access the net; guess I flunked the challenge (not that I'm not going to finish in my own way anyhow) but we have a litter of kittens less than 4 hours old right now - a black-and-grey stripey, a black & white, another dark stripey with a patch of orange on top of his head, and an orange with a white face. He didn't seem like he was going to make it at first; we had to break the sac and rub him with a towel because he was so big that by the time he came out she was already pushing out another one and was too busy to get him breathing. Then she wasn't interested and he wasn't suckling or moving much. But now they're all suckling and mama is sleeping peacefully. Naturally she chose one of the master bedroom closets to do it in...I knew it all day; my husband had been so sure she'd do it in the back room but I just knew somehow where she'd end up. And we'll just leave them alone for the night; the little girl did a pretty good job for a young'un; only almost screwed up one of four. The last cat we had that had a litter had no idea what to do and wanted us with her...then she wouldn't even litter train them; just wanted to suckle them all day. But our other cat trained them; it was hilarious. She literally showed them how to use the litter, and taught them how to calm down and not play too rough. (She had played too rough with the last litter until they outgrew her; she didn't see that coming.) But this cat is very smart, I believe, and she's a fierce hunter - just full of cat cunning and instinct. I think she'll do a good job. Once they're on solids that's that, though, so I hope we have fun with them in the meantime. If I get pictures up I'll post them. They're really not cute yet; you know how it goes. In two weeks they'll be adorable.

Seems I skipped E. Isn't that just like me? A redhaired scatterbrain (I consider myself in good company there - two words; Lucille Ball.) Let's see if we can remedy this (though as Phthalo and others pointed out, no one said we had to do them IN ORDER, did they?) E is for cookie, that's good enough for me...uh, yeah, that doesn't work, does it? For E we shall do perhaps Egg. Eggs are wonderful, amazing, magical things. You can take chicken eggs and scramble them, fry them sunny-side up, over easy (my favorite), emulsify solutions, dip your to-be-fried items in them (in preparation for seasoned flour or breadcrumbs) - hell, we did an entire unit on eggs in cooking class. I took cooking class? Hell yeah, I did. You know why? I didn't want to learn to cook; I was HUNGRY. Some bussed-in black girl used to take my lunch money every day; and at home I had (well I described my brother's diet, so you might not wonder, but I might get a bunless hamburger patty - or, worse, one with white bread that the ketchup soaked through to make pink paste) - well let's just say except for Thanksgiving and Christmas I got pretty scant rations. Not because the woman wouldn't cook and serve, but because the food SUCKED.

There are also human eggs...and unlike the stupid Look Whose Talking Two, the tail does NOT enter the egg; the tail falls right the hell off. I was sick of those eggs getting fertilized so I had the snip. And ain't I glad...TWO IS ENOUGH. God bless the people who have a dozen, but I ain't one of them. Uh, where would I put them, first of all?

Eggs, eggs, eggs; use your imagination; you can think of a zillion things to do with eggs or that happen with eggs. So E is for Eggs.

Oh, not to mention there are chickens who lay pastel eggs - Easter chickens! They have golden hair/feathers and they lay pretty pretty eggs. I once read a story where one of those chickens laid an UGLY shade of green egg; instead of eating it, they let it hatch. It was deformed and had a blind, white eye. But then I read it in the Reader's Digest, which ain't so reliable. But apparently that was the sweetest little chicken you ever did see. Ugly as he was to look at. So; Eggs.

How could I skip Balut? Balut is a duck egg (and oh, duck is good) that's half-hatched. They let it go a certain number of days and then they COOK it...in hot sand or something. Then, complete with feathers, bones and beak, they break it open and put a little vinegar on it (to drown the taste?) and you just...eat it. Andrew Zimmern actually liked it...except, you know, those pesky FEATHERS and BONES and BEAK. Now...why not remove the bones and beak and feathers and serve it as a delicacy? Frankly, prenatal duck sounds wonderful. Except that deal-breaking feathers and beak and bones. It'd probably be delicious. Well, except that hard yolk. I don't like yolk unless it's liquid. Ok, eggs.

There's my doo-wop section - oh yeah, baby, Duke of Earl, kickin'ass in the morning and taking names in the evening. Now how do you follow THAT up?

Well I guess we move on to "Desperation." It means many things to many people; but I suppose I'm talking about the Stephen King book. It was a new concept in publishing - to simultaneously come out with two books, intertwined, one by his long-dead Pseudonym "Richard Bachman" and one by King himself. So you're not a King fan; you can surely appreciate his innovations in the publishing industry. The two books had identical character names; the Bachman book had been "found" by his widow many years after his "death - death by cancer of the pseudonym" but while they had the same character names they did NOT have the same characters nor the same story. Only the same...flavor. Naturally he put King's name to the better of the two books, "Desperation". What struck me, as always does in his books, is that there is usually only ONE (possibly two) people in the entire cast who find themselves in highly bizarre supernatural circumstances, but only ONE person (maybe two, if the second is retarded) who PRAYS. Contrast this with War of the Words where as one would expect, most of the people find themselves in church praying for God's help. No, in King-world, there's one strange person who prays and believes. Is this realistic? No. Not really. As a drowning man will grasp the point of a sword, people in dire circumstances find themselves saying "Oh god, help, Oh God, HELP!" There are no atheists in foxholes right? (Well, there are, but they're a minority.)

See, what struck me in Desperation was that the one 11 year old believer repeated endlessly throughout the book that "God is cruel." And...well, yeah I suppose he is. Since you're not gonna read it anyway I'll give away the end and say that the biggest atheist in the book left a note for the believer that said, "God is Love." It was...well it was earth-shattering. He IS love. But what we perceive and what we know is often two opposite things. Somehow,somewhere, some way, God IS Love. Don't ask me how; I'm just the messenger.

Diligence? Oh, hell, I wish I could learn it. I was never taught it and I don't know how to do it. So there it is. Hah! I thought I was gonna ace this challenge but apparently I suck at it. But I got a few comments and that's all I ever really wanted so I suppose I should count it a success. Diligence...hehe. ME,diligence. Antonyms. There is an acronym in Lisey's Story called "SOWISA" (Strap on Whenever It Seems Necessary.) There was a time when I could do that. Could that time possibly be past? I'm not even that old. But it's the mileage kid, not the years. Perhaps someday I shall be called on to strap it on yet again. Maybe I'll even be able to. Hah. Lotsa luck.

Crazy Joe Clark. See, my husband and daughter went to work together in Eastside High... a cesspool of a place (Crazy Joe Clark is gone now.) Ok so maybe it's fictionalized - SO WHAT? I saw what he did with that place. And...he turned it AROUND. He flipped that shit right around on them. Got them kids' test scores right around on them. When he went outside after he locked the doors (to keep the drug dealers out). The fire marshall went to the school and chastised the guy - You just DON'T lock the door. Hell YES you do - you keep the drug dealers out and cleaned UP that school.

He stood in the door with a baseball bat and chains and told the fire marshall "NOW I'm BATMAN". Uh, because he stood there with a baseball bat and told them to GTFO. Oh and weren't they after him after THAT. They locked him up in jail. Like Nelson Mandela or something.Poor kids; they only had to pass the MINIMUM BASIC SKILLS test. Uh, they passed. Thanks to Crazy Joe Clark - "Well NOW they can call me BATMAN" because he went out there with a baseball bat. He simply KICKD OUT the miscreants and the drug dealers. Well fuck guilt. Saved is saved. I've never been able to get the guilt. I thought guilt was ALL MINE. My lovely conselor told me "You suffer from a lot of misplaced guilt." Well I sure suffered from guilt didn't I? (Mom drilled it into me didn't she?) She said most of it was misplaced. And...it set me free. I have suffered from GUILT since day one - misplaced? Are you SURE? Because guilt s seet me up. Guilt? WHY? What in the fuck had I done wrong? I was a straight A student. I never got into any real trouble. He had his good points, but beating a child wasn't one of them. He said, "Ok Ok,GO AHEAD AND HATE ME!" Hg=hm that was almost the last. One day he threw water on my HAIR (my most sensitive points - my HAIR.) Apparently my grandmother told him that the doctor recommended throwing WATER on her HAIR...they didn't know my hair was my most sensitive point. I'd been tortured about my hair since grammar school. I first saw this guy doing bubble tricks years ago in a video at Six Flags and my God is he awesome - he says THIS is what you get for playing with bubbles every day for eight years. And, er, I bet some of the smoke he uses at home ISN'T tobacco, either. Excellent video.

Trivia - the sound of cracking when someone flicks a whip is actually a mini sonic boom; created when the last few inches of whip breaks the sound barrier - over 700 mph. But I still liked it when Harrison Ford just took out his gun and shot the one guy instead of whip-fighting him; biggest laugh of the movie. Oddly, it turns out they DID have a massive fight planned, but Ford has dystentery and said "Look, guys - can I PLEASE just shoot the guy? I'm not up to this." Inadvertently making the movie better than it already was. But then Lucas and Spielberg are basically insane.

Ok so I will do brother then. I had one hell of a family; it was the sport of all three of them to think up new ways to torture me - a group effort; yay teamwork! Shitheads. But my little brother was a character and a half. Uh...yeah they all were, but he took the cake in some ways. I mean what do you say about a boy who carried a pink baby doll to school every day (and everywhere else) until he was ten? Yeah, I thought the same thing. Baby Big Boy, he called it. It had a string and had like 8 different phrases I think. Sure the kids at school ragged on him - so did I. Come on, the kid did latchhook ffs. Ok so it was sort of cute, and he'd been sick a lot as a younger toddler, so one can perhaps not blame them for spoiling him stark raving rotten. But get real...if you have to peel a boiled hot dog and the kid has only 6 other items on his entire menu...all of which are snow white (god help you if you didn't cut off every shred of brown off the dry-ass roasted skinless chicken breast and heaven help you if two things touched on his plate!) then your kid is just a tad too picky. Plain pasta (just salt), french fries - only the middle; ends would be discarded, peeled green apples, white bread with Marshmallow Fluff on it, plain peeled hot dogs on white buns, potatoes whipped until they're the consistency of runny Cool Whip...um, that's about it. Oh, except the popcorn - just dug through and bit off the puffy tops, left all the rest back in the bowl - one time a friend of my mother's dug into a bowl of popcorn only to hear my mother say, "Um, S already ate that." Ew. No pizza, NO tomato sauce, no cheese, no milk (well maybe with Bosco in it) and the ketchup had to be stored in the cabinet (Heinz only) so it wasn't cold. He told every girlfriend that if there were ever to be any cohabitation or marriage, HE would do the "cooking." That's cooking? And I haven't even told you the worst, most bizarre aspects of their unnatural relationship. Just trust me, it sure wasn't pretty, and it was downright horrifying at times. Some lunatic Oedipal thing or something...yeah, I'm not going there; it's too gross and feels too disloyal even if I don't talk to any of them anymore. You know what I like? Christian brothers. And that's every bit as real as any blood ties. (No offense to non-Christians; I love you guys too! ;) ) Over the years my brother-in-law has come to be much like a real brother...took a long time and a lot of patient sowing, but we care about each other. Big confirmed bachelor type, so we're kinda all he's got. And maybe he's all we've got too, since their mother passed on. He's got his flaws, but don't we all? And as Forrest Gump says, that's all I have to say about that. I actually found the doll on ebay once (vintage and everything) and was gonna buy it and send it to him for a joke, but it never worked out. I thought it might be funny for his wife to see his old childhood love :D Ah well, didn't happen. Well...C tomorrow. I got my first word all set up (it's been going through my head for days) but I'll have to think of some other stuff. This is kind of fun!!

A: Absinthe, Antarctica, Anarchy

That's what the American Absinthe looks like; it's a snazzy black bottle and was only put back on the market fairly recently...they outlawed it for a long time. Unfortunatelyit's very expensive; - looks like it's gone down some but it was almost 70 dollars a bottle. For the higher wormwood content European stuff, which you have to order from Europe itself, it's more like $300 a bottle. Ouch. So it's been quite some time since I've had it. If you can afford it I highly recommend giving it a go. It's quite unlike any other drink, and the effect isn't really like being drunk; it's more like being in an altered state altogether.

If you DO try it, however, go to the site and see how to properly louche it first - don't make the mistake I did and just drink it. Like the guy says in the instruction video, you'd have to be insane to drink it straight. Now he tells me.

Quite interesting; they provide a little metal strainer which is put atop the glass with a sugar cube on it, and you gently pour a tiny stream of ice-cold water over it...as it hits the liquid, you can watch it cloud up and get thick. You can even by a loucher that lets off a steady stream of water. Good stuff.

Alphabet Challenge

Ok so tomorrow I start the alphabet challenge. You think I can't come up with shit? Hah! You betcher ass I can. I can think of ten things just for A. Wait'll we get to M LOL. The alphabet challenge is something a friend came up with...ok a friend of a friend. You start on April FOOL'S day, April 1, and you blog every day (discounting Sundays - apparently somebody's a better Christian than me; usually on Sunday I'm hungover so works for me) and by the end of the month you've worked your way through the alphabet. If I drop out of sight in the meantime it means I'm homeless BUT NOT DEAD; apparently until our time comes we're immortal. (Which makes suicide a joke - how can you kill yourself unless its your time?) At any rate since we're prolly gonna get more traffic I prolly have to come up with something uplifting...ah who am I kidding? I gotta be me! And me is dark. So we'll go with the dark alphabet shall we?

Umm I just looked at sunsets...you see, here on the East Coast we can't see sunsets on the water; did see a magnificent sunrise over the Niagara Falls once tho. But...am I the only person who loathes SUN? Even the word, SUN makes me ill. The sun has poisoned me more than once - sun poisoning isn't pretty; you peel and peel over and over. It burns your eyes. I like second shift - no sun. And when you google sunsets you come up with eight bazillion pictures featuring PALM TREES. FUCK palm trees. Big ugly trunks with a little puff on top. Screw that. I like Mimosas and maples. Mimosas, when they're done right, you can climb and they got these pretty little leaves and gorgeous blooms in the spring. In fact, FUCK spring without Mimosas. It's useless without those pretty pink blooms. Oh sure you can have your cherry trees that you gotta RENT something to pick because they're so high. All pretty blooms and then impossible fruit. Disaster Averted

Ok so I'm sitting on my bed eating some roasted chicken (even if I do think I make it better than my husband does; he thinks different) and reading. Husband, son and daughter are all down the hall in the kitchen eating chicken. All of a sudden "HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHHHCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHCCCHHHHH" - this SCREAM of a choke starts coming down the hall, and I know it's my daughter, because it's her voice. Then it starts going on, and on, and ONNNN! She was choking sure as hell. Now I know the conventional wisdom and it's *normally* quite correct - as long as the person is making sounds or coughing (uh, which makes a sound) then leave them alone to get it out, right? But no, it was VERY clear with this sound that it was to be immediately followed by silence - either by a complete blockage of the airway or death, or both. Normally I'm very good in any emergency and I almost started running down the hall to Heimlich the kid (now again,normally you wouldn't Heimlich someone unless there was no sound, and there are very good reasons for that; you're trying to use the last bit of air left inside to dislodge whatever's stuck in there, but like I say, in this case if you had heard it you would know; it WAS time to try) - but for some reason instead I screamed "OH MY GOD HELP HER, PLEASE HELP HER!" (I was talking to my husband and son there, not praying for a miracle.) And as I'm screaming that I hear my husband say, "No, get UNDER there!" - now if there's one thing I've taught my kids, it's life-saving techniques and first aid. And remaining calm and pro-active during an emergency. It kept on and on...and then suddenly, it stopped and she was ok. I was JUST about to run down the hall (I can't run, but under the right conditions I could probably lift a car, you know?) and dial 911 but that wasn't the answer; the problem is that in that 4 minutes she would have been dead. And unfortunately our most local ambulance services closed up shop so it would be more minutes; we'd end up with some idiot asshole rookie cop telling us to wait for an ambulance or something. Hell, wait until I tell about the time I had a seizure and the difference between the ambulance help and the police help (hint: the cops always get there first.)

Anyway, I'm still screaming, "IS SHE OK, IS SHE??? WHAT HAPPENED?" and I heard, oh thank God, I heard her saying "It's OK Mommy".

But of course I had to get all the inside poop so I made them all come in and tell me what happened in detail. It was a CHICKEN BONE caught in her airway - almost but not quite fully blocking it. I said "So, did you get it up on your own, or did he get it up for you?" She said "Oh hell no, it wasn't going ANYWHERE; HE got it up! As soon as daddy told him to get UNDER there" (he started a tad too high).

So I started singing that song "How to save a life..." because I was so happy and proud. Why in hell she was chewing a bite with a bone in it I'll never know; I wouldn't. It was JUST like the scene in Amadeus where Salieri's father chokes on a chicken bone (he must have been a good actor because the sound was exactly the same only more drawn out and repeated many times.) So then of course I had to quote Salieri there - when his father was choking on a chicken bone, he said, "And then you know what happened? A MIRACLE!" See, he hated his father ;) But frankly I did not want to go watch this young woman I love die, part of why I hesitated, in fact.

Then I told my son "You actually saved her LIFE; you're a hero!" And no one will ever know; pity, that. But I can rest easy in the knowledge that I DID pass on some great tools and the ability to use them to the people that matter most to me. Sure, I could have done it - I HAVE done it, but to see someone else do it is awe-inspiring; especially when you know you were the one who taught them how.

Ok so I'll include one other anecdote (aren't you lucky! lol) - not the last thanksgiving but the one before that, our ailing cousin - well, my husband's cousin, but she's always treated me as family - was sitting next to me and she didn't have her plate in. And she didn't cut her turkey small enough. And it was slightly underdone,and thus a tad more...rubbery? (No, it wasn't rubbery; it was delicious, but rubbery will do.) And she was sitting right next to me, and suddenly...that sound. That horrible choking sound. And I did what you're supposed to; I asked her if she was choking, and she kept choking. Then I asked her if she was all right, and she shook her head no. Emphatically. See, you normally have some idea if you're gonna cough something up. She was still making sounds, but when someone tells you they're choking and they're NOT OK, you gotta go for it. So I jumped the hell up and grabbed her skinny ass and PUSHED. A second later, she said "Ok ok ok ok - I got it; it's up." I only had to do it once. Ideally, you only have to do it once; like I say, the idea is to use the last bit of air to dislodge the thing. Postscript - as she's standing there (did I forget to mention she stood up, as one naturally would, when she started choking really bad?) I saw across the table my brother-in-law sitting there looking extremely annoyed, rolling his eyes and looking at his plate...wtf? I was like, the girl is CHOKING here, hello?!? (Girl...hehe, she's 50.) Anyway, later on he actually mentioned it disgustedly, about how she was "puking" on her plate. I said "She wasn't puking, she was CHOKING to death". And...in her typical fashion of demeaning me in little ways (she doesn't know she's doing it so I don't fault her so much for it) she said, "You almost had it, too." Heh. That's the thanks I get for dislodging the turkey - you ALMOST had the spot. As though I didn't kick it the hell out personally. Ah well; I don't want credit - watchword for emergencies - remain calm, and employ your techniques. Use them appropriately, and be trained in first aid. No one remained calm or knew the techniques to breathe air into me when I stopped breathing so I pretty much drilled it into them even more after that. In fact, I drilled everyone who came to my house - "Hey, if I ever stop breathing, THIS is how you do it..." Hehe. I like to breathe. When I found out that CPR only works 2% of the time I was dismayed and when I read that those paddles of electricity can NOT *restart* your heart but can only stabilize an ailing heartbeat, I was doubly dismayed. What the hell did I learn all that stuff for? Well...you gotta try :) So...lives saved, many at any rate. Heh, when I swallowed a penny at 1 1/2 or 2 (I remember it, but I was tiny) my babysitter saw me sitting there not breathing and choking, and SHE hung me upside down by my feet and pounded me on the back. By the way, it worked! Out popped the penny! Gravity rocks!

More Jackass

Ok so this isn't political. Obama still sucks? Congress still blows? Economy still socializing? Freedoms still being lost? Yeah, I think we're caught up then.

The picture? Also has nothing to do with Jackass - it's a Deep Sea Hatchetfish - otherwise known as the Fish that Will Eat Your Soul or the Fish of the Damned. I just liked it.

Anyway, I'm kind of surprised they actually made a Jackass 3 - I was pretty sure they were done with Jackass 2. Steve-O went on to make an incredibly drunk performance on late night television and security had to escort him out; he's been sober two years now. Bam went on to get married, had a pretty funny show Viva la Bam, mostly thanks to his incredibly tolerant parents and his hilarious molestor uncle Don Vito, then he just sorta poofed. He got his comeuppance for his smartassery (as opposed to Jackassery) in Jackass 2 when they made him cry a minimum of three times - he likes to be the one punching you in the nuts, he doesn't want to be thrown in with snakes and they let loose on him in a quite satisfying manner. Johnny Knoxville's appetite for self-destruction was already petering out - you could tell in the riot gun stunt - he didn't want to be seriously injured (and certainly wants a fully constructed face as well as future mobility) and I think the cameramen were sick of puking at the late-night drunk-fuckery.

But they did it anyway - I'm pretty sure the only way they convinced Bam to participate was by promising him HE could be the punk and ball-puncher this time and they wouldn't make him cry too much. Which is why the running "Rocky" gag; only one of which they flipped on him to make him squeal like the little bitch he is. It was actually worth it just to see him tased and thrown into a snakepit, crying and screaming. Johnny seemed to laugh just as hard as ever at the shenanigans, Wee-man never stops laughing (maybe he never stops drinking) and they all seemed to be in pretty much top form. At least close. Admittedly they turned down the danger level a tad (they aren't young guys anymore so much, eh?) and went with the other factors a bit more that have contributed to the success of the franchise, but all in all I have to say it was worth it. Go ahead and watch it; you know you want to.

Rip Taylor was still hilarious at the end, too. I must say I warned my son around the time the show became popular that if he was considering Jackassery himself, he'd better put that thought RIGHT out of his head - these guys are sick and the stuff they do is extraordinarily dangerous. They put the disclaimer at the beginning "These stunts are done by professionals; do NOT attempt them and do NOT submit any footage of yourself trying Jackass-style stunts because we won't even watch them." Which I guess is true in one sense - they are professionals in the sense that they get paid to do what they do. But so far as I know they are not professional stuntmen - they submitted footage of their idiocy and it got popular...and people got hurt trying to copy them. THEY got hurt plenty themselves (not to impugn Bam's incredible skateboarding skill; but that wasn't what got him on the map. It was the footage of the stupid stuff he and his pals would do.) Now, of course, they have teams of professionals on hand to oversee the stunts, the animals, and provide medical attention, but I don't know as that makes them pro stuntmen themselves. No, they started as Jackasses and they finish as Jackasses IMO. Funny, lovable, sick jackasses. And still worth watching. It'll be the last one; this time I'm pretty sure of it, so enjoy.

Honestly it's almost worth it just to see how hard they laugh at one another getting hurt.

Ok so I been reading the guy thirty years or more; I CAN'T HELP IT. Though I gotta say his last book screwed with my head in a very bad, very unfunny way. When he named it "Full Dark, No Stars" he wasn't kidding; this is PITCH black shit. And frankly his last line in the afterword felt like a kick in the face. My daughter assures me it was sarcastic...but I'm not sure. At any rate, he made a comment about Sstephanie Meyer (SP?) and her idiotic "Twilight" books. You a "Twilight" fan? Fuck off then. I hated the first book so much I only read it twice (and lemme tell you, if I only read your stupid book twice YOU SUCK.) He made the comparison between that and the author of the Harry Potter series, saying that at least SHE could WRITE. Now I only read the first three of the Potter series but I would willingly read the rest. SHE actually CAN write. And Meyer can't. So for my enjoyment I am going to include a commentary (a rare commentary since he doesn't talk much) by King about the flap. Oh, you didn't know there was a flap? Well THERE WAS. Twilight fans - all the sad dancing hipsters and emos and whoever the hell else they are had a FIT about the comment. Hahaha - hey, I might find sad dancing hipsters sexy (like 'em young and at least they have the sense NOT to wear loose pants and wear their hair long) but their taste in literature SUCKS.

The Weirdest Thing Happened on the Way to My Blog Today...

I tried to go to my blog this morning via the URL and got a message that my blog had been REMOVED; no explanation, no nothing. So I started following links and trying to get some telephone help -ended up with an Amazon phone number (which in my distress I mistook for a google number), called it, and the woman took my info and filled out a form asking them to reinstate the blogspot, and asking if there was any further information they needed. She said it would take 24 - 48 hours. Great. But then I got an email from Amazon asking if she'd resolved my problem and lo and behold, the next time I tried to get to the blog, it was there. What. the. hell.??? What does Amazon have to do with it? Why does google have all sorts of personal information about me associated with my gmail account? Why did she deign to help me when they're not affiliated in that way? Why did the account suddenly appear again? Oh, none of this makes any sense at all and I. don't. like. it. When I had my own domain it was fine and dandy but my hiatus caused me to miss the last couple bills on the domain so it is gone for good. (Another 5 or 7 years of my work just gone, but c'est la vie.)

Well, for the moment the blog is here and if it disappears again I'll certainly try to get the correct phone number to rectify it (no way I'll be waiting for mere emails.) And as soon as (and assuming IF) I can rectify my financial problems I'm doing my own domain again to end all this ridiculous hassle. I really don't want or need it. But er...uh...thanks Amazon for helping me?? If you did? And...yeah, domain time. The name isn't taken and I can still get it back, so I'll do that if it comes to it and I'm ever able. In the meantime I'm also going to mark down all my blogroll addresses somewhere where they won't be lost if something should go kerflooey again. But I tell you...WEIRD.

First of all the hysterics and freaking feminists are losing their minds - Marcotte goes so far as to claim that the point of this bill is to punish (by denying healthcare to) young women who dare to have sex. But she's an idiot. So first I have a problem because no matter where I turn I'm seeing feminists bitching and that's never a good thing. Plus, they get it wrong; I'm gonna quote one at a bit of length in a minute. It bothers me secondly because is THIS what we sent these fuckers to congress for? Is this why I spent my own money to drive our car down to Washington, DC, lay out for a hotel and food, and attend a rally that had no bathrooms or food vendors nearby for? So these people could go to congress and start up this piddling bullshit? This is exactly what we told them NOT to do - to start in on the social shit. We have an economy to fix - a budget to get settled and very hard funding choices to make, not to mention the debt ceiling, and two years of Obama legislation to undo, and instead we get THIS? I think I hear the sound of one-termers already. Boehner you might as well hand Nancy her gavel back if this is your priority.

I'm not going to take a position on abortion here - there are likely cases where someone is in serious danger and doesn't have money or insurance and needs help; OK but overall I don't see why government should be paying willy-nilly for abortions. As to insurance companies...well let's quote the feminist and then get to that.

1. This bill narrows the “rape” exception to include only “forcible rape.” As Sady explains: Under this new bill, the only rape survivors who would be able to receive funding would be those who were able to prove that their rapes involved “force.” If your rapist drugged you, intoxicated you, or raped you while you were unconscious, you don’t get coverage. If your rapist used coercion, you don’t get coverage. If this is a case of statutory rape — that is, if you are a thirteen-year-old child, raped by someone outside of your family — you don’t get coverage. If you’re an incest survivor over the age of eighteen — if, say, years of abuse only culminated in a pregnancy after your nineteenth birthday — you just don’t get coverage.

Ok,so they've removed the "forcible" language and now it includes cases where someone was coerced, drugged, etc. Having been slipped a mickey a time or two myself I can attest that you can be completely unaware of your actions after that, and I'd certainly file that under rape. I'm still unclear as to why this language was in there in the first place. We paid for 191 abortions due to rape last year...is adding the word "forcible" one of those "deep and meaningful cuts" in spending that the freshmen were sent there to make? Because I'm not seeing it.

2. This bill narrows the “life of the mother” exceptions to include only physical threats to the life of the mother. If carrying to term a pregnancy that you do not want might make you suicidal, or if giving up a baby for adoption might be more than you can emotionally bear, too damn bad. No abortion coverage unless the pregnancy causes a risk to your physical health.

You know...too fucking bad. The life of the mother means just that; it means a real threat, not that you just "can't bear" it. If you can't bear it, use a rubber. Go on the pill. Do something to prevent it from happening, fool. There are 8 bazillion ways NOT to get pregnant; pick one.

3. This bill empowers rapists. This bill makes it pretty damn clear, by only offering the rape exception to pregnant survivors of “forcible rape,” that any form of sexual violation that doesn’t involve force isn’t really rape. And since about 70% of rapists don’t use force when they rape, that lets about 70% of rapists off the hook.

Considering the feminist definitions of "rape" that is probably fine. You guys are insane. Don't believe me? Check out the "Biting Beaver" Rapist Checklist. I'll wait. Yeah. No. If that's what we're paying for, something's wrong.

4. This bill goes even further than the Hyde Amendment, which already prevents federal funds from being used for abortion. By amending the tax code to make it incredibly unappealing for private health insurance companies to cover abortion, this bill makes abortion less affordable than ever. As the New York Times reports: The tax credits that are encouraging small businesses to provide insurance for their workers could not be used to buy policies that cover abortions. People with their own policies who have enough expenses to claim an income tax deduction could not deduct either the premiums for policies that cover abortion or the cost of an abortion. People who use tax-preferred savings accounts to pay medical costs could not use the money to pay for an abortion without paying taxes on it.

Yeah, they lose me here. What? Now you can't claim your insurance costs on your taxes? Bullshit. Don't get me wrong; when I was growing up and abortion became like the most common surgery in the country, you weren't getting your insurance to pay for it. You scraped up $200 or you were out of luck. I won't claim your insurance is "denying you reproductive medical care" if they won't pay for an elective abortion - most will likely pay if there are extenuating circumstances anyway, so quitcherbitchin' and be glad any of them pay at all. At the same time for the government to start sticking its nose in there? BULL. Absolute, unadulterated BULL. You want to talk about abortions we pay for out of government coffers directly (LATER WHEN WE'RE ALL WORKING AGAIN PERHAPS?) fine, but this is just nonsense. How much money is this actually supposed to save? This passes for "deep spending cuts"? No. Screw you.

5. This bill completely contradicts what the GOP’s professed priorities. Speaker Boehner and the rest of the GOP claim that their top priority is creating jobs for Americans. But this bill, their third piece of legislation in the new session, has nothing to do with creating jobs and everything to do with sexism and culture war politics.

I agree...except you, being an economic fool, think the government literally "creates" jobs. It doesn't work that way, honey. What the government does is cut spending and taxes, and relieving overly burdensome regulation and red tape, and the job market begins to grow. Now by focusing on this nonsense clearly they aren't doing that - but you aren't going to like it when they DO start doing that anyway and you're going to wonder why they aren't "creating jobs" for you. Trust me; that isn't how it works, ok?

So...if Obama's a one-termer and THIS is what congress is going to spend its time on, there are going to be an awful lot of one-termers out there. I'd as soon turn it back over to the Dhimmis and let them burn it all down if this congress doesn't get its head on straight, FAST, and start focusing on this economic mess we're in. Let them break the bone all the way through so it can be properly set and heal if that's what it takes; no need to watch as alleged "Tea Party-friendly" GOPers just slowly twist the damned thing for years until it can NEVER be fixed.

Oh. Barry was on television again? That's nice. Isn't he, like, always on television? You know what would have been hilarious? If halfway through the speech, he got Bill Clinton to come out and finish it for him. I would have totally watched that on youtube. I might take a peek at Bachmann's rebuttal transcripts, because some conservatives were getting very pissy about that. So, you know, just to see what it's all about. Maybe. Other than that, I really don't give a rat's ass.

I made it through 8 years of Clinton without watching one of these things, and didn't suffer for it. I think I can make it through the next 6. Or two. Whatever. Come to think of it, I didn't watch Bush's either. Because I just didn't, that's why. With Clinton I changed the channel the minute he ever came on, because A) he was a camera whore who NEVER got his mug out of the lens and B) I knew if his lips were moving he was lying anyway, so what was the point? With Bush I just figured there were now plenty of ways to keep informed as to what's going on and listening to a canned presidential speech is just about on the bottom rung of that list. So why would I suddenly tune in for yet another camera whore whose lip movement means "lie" and now there are even *more* ways to stay informed? Yeah, I wouldn't, that's what. If I really want to know the state of the union I'll just watch Idiocracy.

I have my own rebuttal planned anyway, and I'll give it to you now: Your revolution is over, Lebowski; the bums lost - my condolences! Is there really anything more I could hope to learn by listening to Obama read his teleprompter? I didn't think so either.

So Olberdouche is GONE - just like that. In a surprise announcement, he says "Ok folks, that's it, sayonara, nice knowin' ya'! His new job as The Worst Person in the World begins after a brief sabbatical. Who we're going to get to scream and yell at us to be civil after this, I don't know. But good riddance to bad rubbish. That's the good news.

The bad news is that they're moving some other douche up to his slot, leaving a slot open for Cenk effing Uygur. I don't know if you know the guy, but he's on "The Young Turks", a far-left youtube show that has often debated Lee Doren of Bureaucrash, a bona fide original grassroots Tea Partier from the early days who has made it pretty big (and more power to him, I say. His links are on my sidebar; DO check him out; he shreds bullshit with no profanity and no incivility and nothing but cold hard fact - great stuff.) Anyway, I had just been happening to look into this supposed controversy where Sarah Palin was being castigated for not screaming at Ann Coulter.

Ok from the beginning, then, for clarity. I see a post somewhere about Sarah Palin supposedly constantly calling her own son "My retarded baby" (source of this alleged info? Levi Johnston during his happy fun tour.) Which led me to a controversy wherein Ann Coulter posted a link on twitter to a video of "A retard interviewing a Republican". It turned out the "retard" was Cenk Uygur, who I happen to be familiar with. Well Cenk wrote an angry article for the Huffington Post wherein he demanded to know WHY Sarah Palin was not making a public statement condemning Coulter for using the word "retard". Now mind you, I don't care whether she does so or not - it's not Palin's job to police everything everyone says, and she's eaten enough shit sandwiches for ten grown men already, and no matter WHAT she does they're going to crucify her so if she says nothing I couldn't care less. But Cenk was convinced that if Palin didn't condemn Coulter it would forever make her a hypocrite. As if they don't already think she is. Duh.

So I'm wondering, well maybe it wasn't a very nice thing for Ann to say that - perhaps she should have chosen a different word, etc. etc. which led me to look up the interview in question. And THEN I got pissed. Because the interview she was referring to was one in which Cenk was interviewing the head of the GOProud, the Gay Republican group. Apparently CWA (Concerned Women for America) and the Family Research Council are boycotting CPAC (the biggest conservative convention) because the GOProud is going to be there for the second or third year in a row. Well, fuck them - they can boycott; I don't like the LaHayes or Dobson anyway. For YEARS Dobson's been a one-trick pony, and that trick is teh gays. I have my own personal opinions and my own personal religious beliefs, but I don't prefer to mix them up with government - government can stay out of my damned personal business so I'm sure it can stay out of gay people's business too. I don't see anything in the constitution about policing people's sex lives anyway. (Please don't say it; I know being gay is about more than sex; but it's the sex that they have a problem with and we all know it.) At any rate, being a Tea Partier, the more the merrier - so long as they want what I do - a constitutionally limited government, free markets, common law (gov't exists to protect people from direct harm to persons and property) and liberty, climb aboard. (For that matter, the first specifically black Tea Party meeting is taking place in Houston and won't that make lefty heads 'splodey? Haha!) And those Last Days books suck. They're poorly written, the theology blows, and all Bev LaHaye cares about is teh gays too. So if they don't think they want or need the help of people who have likeminded views on government or who are conservative just because they're gay, screw them.

So, back to the interview. Cenk is interviewing the head of GOProud, and the guy is very intelligent and articulate and I sure would have liked to hear more from him but Cenk just couldn't let up for a second. Which brings me back to where I got really pissed off. He starts right off attacking the guy, asking how he can POSSIBLY be a Republican. So the guy makes a distinction right away; he says, actually I'm a **conservative** Republican, emphasis on conservative. Because it's really not all about party, now, is it? We've had so many RINOs for so long that we kind of HAVE to make these distinctions now, don't we? Which this guy does. And Cenk starts challenging him asking how he can POSSIBLY align himself with conservatives when conservatives hate him. The guy TRIES to explain that since the formation of GOProud they have been welcomed to CPAC and that he feels more welcomed as a gay among conservatives than he does as a conservative around gay people. Which makes a lot of sense. Did Cenk let him even finish a thought? Hell no. Cenk continued to deride and harangue the guy, but even worse, he kept LAUGHING IN HIS FACE - repeatedly, loudly, rudely. This is a guest on his fucking SHOW - is that how you treat your guests? Really? THAT passes for journalism? Laughing in a guy's face over and over again and telling him what a moron he is? So I lost all interest in the fact that Coulter called him a retard (which is an offense to retarded people everywhere, who don't deserve to be compared to such an odious prick) and instead my ire was directed at this Uygur character who can't conduct himself professionally during a freaking interview. Now, my heart really goes out to this poor GOProud guy, because here he is trying to effect positive change in the country so we can get back to a constitutional government and maybe all get back to WORK and making some money instead of plunging into the misery index yet again, and not only do two prominent groups boycott a same-party event because of his group but the opposition laughs in his face. WTF? He didn't deserve that shit. No, the disgrace here was not Ann's use of the word "retard" but the SHAMEFUL treatment of a guest by Cenk Uygur. And now MSNBC is gonna put him on the 6 o'clock news? Oh yeah, GOOD move, assnuggets. I hope he gets a fuckton of negative publicity for his derision of this guest who did him no harm, and I hope your whole damn station goes under. Wasn't Olbermann bad enough? Obviously no one is going to quit bitchin; that's what blogs are for, right? At least I think so. But sometimes a character so odious, so repugnant, so abhorrent just keeps on and on and on for years and gets themselves put in the national spotlight yet, that you would really just wish they would once and for all just stfu. During the Edwards campaign two bloggers were hired to connect with the internet generation - I don't think little Johnny did much vetting, as these bloggers were so over-the-moonbat, so far left of Stalin, and so blatantly offensive to most Americans that Edwards actually had to fire them in shame and pretend the whole thing never happened. One of them I knew from the good old days (12 years or so perhaps - and she's a real humdinger all right) and one was a new one to me. It's that one I'm going to proverbially shred here, as she's just begging herself for a verbal shredding and always is. And since she always refers to herself as Queen Cunt of Fuck Mountain, I'm going to use very strong words to do it. Now I could do this every day since something insane appears every day, and I could exist for years doing nothing but that and never miss a single day blogging. But I don't have that kind of stamina, so let's settle for one representative shredding and leave the new blog idea for someone who has the stomach for it. It's a blog called shakespearessister and it's a haven of radical feminist leftism and constant invective. I've nothing against invective if it's A) funny and/or B) true, but none of this is either. As I've learned to my sorrow. This is someone who relies on Ezra Klein, KOS, ThinkProgress, and PAUL effing Krugman, who she apparently believes is an economist and not a politico duping millions as he rakes in the money.

One of today's offerings:

97: The percentage of Republicans in the House who "will still be receiving insurance through the Federal Employees' Health Benefits Plan—a federal exchange which offers subsidized coverage to federal government workers, including members of Congress. According to a ThinkProgress analysis, seven, or just three percent of all the Republicans in the House have agreed to give up their insurance while they vote to repeal coverage for some 32 million Americans."

Why yes, yes they will still be receiving health coverage. Let's put this in some perspective, shall we? See, the Republicans tried to introduce a plan that if the country were going to be forced into accepting Obamacare that the congress should have to all be covered under Obamacare as well. Guess who rejected that idea? The Democrats. None of them felt Obamacare was good enough for *them* - just for all of us, no matter how much we don't want it. Some of us don't want to be fined for not buying insurance when we can't afford it. Some of us know exactly where it's leading and don't want that either. And who are these mythical 30 million people who suddenly have health care that didn't before? Last I read, there are 222 companies (all contributors to Obama's campaigns) that are exempt from the bill now, and companies are being forced to charge more for insurance, drop people altogether, raise co-pays and cover fewer things in order to cut their expenses from this monstrosity of a bill. But an imaginary 30million new poor people have coverage. Uh-huh. Hey, I have this bridge available...

Scrolling down I see the constantly-covered "blood libel" anti-Semitic charge against Palin even though prominent Rabbis like Schmuley Boteach say she used it quite properly and even Ed Koch, who admits he is terrified of Palin's policy, says she didn't say anything wrong and did a good job with her speech. Others deride it as being a purposeful stab at the Jews, when Palin is an ardent Israel supporter (uh,yeah, Obama isn't.) But here's one no one else thought to mention because it's just that ridiculous.

At one point in the interview (which is viewable here), she also says: "They can't make us sit down and shut up." "Sit down and shut up" is a common enough phrase, but her they can't make us construction is evocative of the language of social justice movements, and the Civil Rights Movement in particular. That Palin chose to use these words, in this way, on Martin Luther King Day, is no coincidence.

No accident. Yes, she said "they can't make us" because she hates black people. You know why no one else reported this? Because it doesn't make any sense. But guess what? You CAN'T make us sit down and shut up. You CAN'T tell us we can "come along for the ride but they have to sit in back" as Obama said about Republicans. Because we won't do it. We may scare you, but you don't scare us.

You really should thank me because scrolling through this shit is harder than it looks. *Everything* is horrible and shred-worthy. And those words are no accident! They come on the anniversary of the Fargo woodchipper incident which as we all know was an anti-feminist crime.

As I've written before, anti-choice activists, in conjunction with the GOP, have successfully chipped away at abortion rights on the federal and state levels for two decades, hollowing the right guaranteed by Roe via "partial-birth abortion bans" and "parental consent laws" and state legislatures that refuse to fund clinics offering abortions and local municipalities creating barriers with zoning laws.

Bitch, please. D&X abortion is an atrocity almost anyone (well, anyone with a soul) can recognize, unless the baby is in a condition that is LITERALLY incompatible with life such as anencephaly. That isn't usually why it's done. And you know it. You know the AMA has said that procedure is never necessary to save the life of the mother, either. And yes, Dr. Tiller was a monster; I read up on his background and his statements. No, no one should have shot him, but that doesn't change what he was. And it isn't why so many clinics closed *years* before that. They operate for profit; if profits fall off, they close. Abortion is at an all-time low; apparently we don't need as many clinics because maybe,just MAYBE, people are using birth control. PARENTAL CONSENT LAWS do not take away anyone's rights; they RESTORE the right of the parents to have *knowledge* of serious medical procedures taking place on their CHILDREN - if the nurse can't give her an aspirin without your consent, they sure as shit can't operate on her. Get real. That doesn't restrict her right to have one; the parents have to be notified but that doesn't mean they can stop it. And ME refusing to PAY YOU for your abortion isn't taking away your right to have one. You find the fucking money; I don't owe you an abortion. Next time use a rubber; they're everywhere, you know.

The people who use violent rhetoric, and violence, bank on that response. They provoke until Something Bad Happens, and they count on their opponents' decency, which they exploit for maximum gain.

As Coulter said, if you want to know what the left is up to, just look at what they're accusing conservatives of. Believe me, no one over here is counting on YOU people to be anything approaching "decent". You never have been, why start now?

I certainly don't begrudge her health coverage provided by her job. Which so many people are now LOSING thanks to Obamacare. And WHY did she get the best healthcare in the world? Because she got it in the United States, which has maintained a semblance of a free market in the field and thus is constantly *innovating* and making advances in the field. Also because in this country it is ILLEGAL to turn away anyone who needs emergency care - such as someone who was just SHOT IN THE HEAD. Anyone would get the care available in their area and the bill comes later - if you are indigent it usually gets written off to charity care. They can't attach your wages for it or put you in jail for not paying it or take your house away for it - all they can do is try to collect. Ok those were the laws last time I needed medical care; have they changed? Did Obamacare fuck me over now too?

Then there's a rant on how evil Gwyneth Paltrow is for dispensing advice to other mothers because her privilege is so obvious. Now if only she'd done it the way Cracked did it it would have been funny. She doesn't "get" funny. Ok, here's the one I wanted. I gave up scrolling and did a search. There's a new movie with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston (sounds...awful) where he enlists the help of his friend (Aniston) to help him get the girl of his dreams. Obviously they will fall in love during the process and end up together; formula comedy at its "finest", right? Hokey bullshit no one will bother with. But wait! They use anti-feminist sexual assault imagery - it's a rape movie! WHO KNEW?

Here, we see Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler sitting on the beach fist-bumping each other, sealing the deal in which she'll help him "land the woman of his dreams." In the background, her bikini-clad back turned to the camera, is, presumably, said dream woman.
But take a closer look at the way their fists are positioned as they bump. X notes via email: "They appear to be about to pull apart the model's legs, like a turkey wishbone. This might take some kind of prize as the subtlest version of violence against women in movie posters that I've ever seen, but it still definitely suggests a violent act."

I guess it does if you're insane. In fact it's so subtle no one else will ever see it.

This is not a coincidence. The entire premise of the movie is that Sandler has enlisted Aniston's help to get laid, and here is the visual representation of the two of them working together to pry apart a woman's legs.

Representative Bob Brady is writing a bill to censor political speech, and when asked about people who might be against such legislation, he sincerely asks "Why would you be against it?" Apparently he missed the first amendment part of the reading of the constitution on the house floor the other day. The Constitution is hate speech anyway. (After all it was written by gun-owning insurgents who shot people in the quest for liberty, making them no different than Loughner.)

THE SHERIFF (and why weren't there police at this event???) blames conservatives immediately despite this NOT BEING HIS JOB AT ALL, and we find out HE KNEW LOUGHNER INTIMATELY and KNEW the guy was violent and dangerous...did nothing. He painted blame in order to excuse himself for any ACTUAL blame.

MarKOS of The Daily KOS is fomenting hatred by blaming the Tea Party for thisand especially Sarah Palin's "Target Map" despite using the exact same imagery himself and he decries "Target Lists" as violent despite using target lists extensively on his own site. Markos is a newfag asshole who never gives an inch and will blame the right for everything from global warming (er. climate change) to the cream in his coffee containing simplesse. As these people decry violent rhetoric and the climate of hate, they call us all murderers without a qualm. Yes, they're that stupid.

Sure some of us have been angry for a long time, but now millions upon millions more are angry and what's more they're done playing that game. The one some of us knew they could never win anyway. I watched some of President Obama's comments in his press conference today, one day after I sent him a letter in response to an Organizing for America email, expressing my disappointment in some of his policies and his proposal to extend all of the Bush tax cuts.

I'm sure he'd already received it and it was his number one priority to address your letter. He didn't have anything better to do that day anyway. Not even a golf game in sight. Now what are we talking about - HIS proposal to extend the tax cuts? HIS proposal? No, honey, let me explain this to you - our guys were not going to play ball on that one, no way no how. And apparently with Obama you don't even have to be in your seat yet; you just have to not blink. They didn't blink. See, it was all or nothing on that one - let the taxes increase for *everyone* - including you leftist bloggers and the people barely scraping by paycheck to paycheck (not that you'd know about THAT; that involves WORK) - or leave the tax rates as they are across the board. He knew how you'd scream if your paychecks (those of you who get them) got smaller and frankly, he also knew it would be wrong to do that to them. He doesn't get why it's wrong to do it to the richer people, but he got that it would be wrong to do to the poorer among us. You didn't get that memo or didn't understand it. Moving on then, since you're a wordy fucker.

Today I saw a president openly mocking and disparaging the principled activists of his party. He sounded like he didn't want my support or the support of any progressives -- that he is done with us and plans to make no attempt to woo us by embracing any of our principles and policy preferences as he has done so frequently and self-abasedly with conservative Republicans.

First of all...WOO you? What are you, 14? An idiot? It is not the president's job to "woo" you - that's called campaigning. See, he's got the job now and he has to, like, DO it. I know, foreign concept. He doesn't have time to KEEP stroking your schlong for you anymore every second of every freaking day - not if he wants to get anything at all done; you people are ENDLESSLY greedy for stroking and you expect it from the guy as your birthright; well grow up.

Second of all, I watched the thing, and what I saw was a man who was TRYING to explain this all to you in very simple terms why it had to happen this way. They weren't lobbing softballs or writing puff pieces this time; this was his time to "get even" with the GOP and you were thirsty for conservative blood, and you thought he could get it for you. He couldn't. And you were galled. Surprisingly enough, not at them for being so insistent, but at HIM this time. I don't think he saw that one a'comin'. Because you built this man up to be a God...well he's a God who BLEEDS! (5 pts for reference.) The FIRST TIME he meets up with the new folk, he strikes a pretty even compromise (you know, that thing you're always telling conservatives to do?) and you call that "frequently and self-abasedly with Republicans"??? Are you kidding me? What in the hell are you going to do for two years when he's forced to make bigger compromises and take bigger losses? Do your heads go 'splodey or what? Because even Olbermann went on an unbelievable rant already; spewing the same shit he always does, only this time at his own guy instead of teh ebil Bush. My God, when it comes time to defund Obamacare and actually make cuts, what happens to you? I can't wait to find out.

But you know, if you had any sense at all, you would have actually listened to his explanation. He even did it your way - he blamed the Republicans for it (you say blame, I say credit - potayto potahto) - and you still wouldn't listen? Why? He was telling the truth (loosely defined) and in all likelihood he did his best (he did come out with a few things of his own, you know) but his best isn't going to be everything you want it to be - nobody's best could be, and this time he's up against real competition for the first time. This time he didn't have an entire congress and senate full of supporters to ram it through without reading it first. (Well...technically he DID, but whatever. I'm not really sure why he had to do this.) And you take his explanations as mockery of you? Get over yourself. He read your fucking letter and he did the best he could about it!

He sounded like he would not even try to "earn back my support and the support of the millions of progressive Democrats, especially young people like myself who invested so much hope in your candidacy two years ago," as I asked him to do in my letter.

Like I said, he read it first thing, and he really tried, my darling. Earning your support is his #1 priority. Along with his 8 thousand other number one priorities.

Then, this evening, I got another email from OFA, asking me to watch a video of President Obama promoting the Republican tax cuts for the rich and to leave a comment as feedback to the Obama campaign. I watched the video and left the following comment:

Whoah whoah - back up there, buddy boy. There were no tax cuts involved here - not for the wealthy. What was on the table was maintaining current tax RATES, not making cuts. Please do get your facts straight on this because it's rather important. Tax cuts come later. Coming soon to a district near you!

Ok, how can I explain this one. First of all, the guy couldn't be more leftist if he were Stalin. He REALLY IS on your side. He studied and believes in Marx. He was raised into Islamicism. This "move so far to the right" was an ever-so-slight swerve to avoid a massive pothole - if you think this is moving to the right, you are in for a VERY rude awakening. He hasn't even thought of coming close to the middle yet, and he's going to have to (or he'll have to use his own unemployment plan).

Second of all snookums, the Republicans did NOT get exactly what they want - not by a long shot. They made what is called a compromise wherein each side gives up something and try to come out fairly even. It was too soon for cuts, and continuing unemployment was not a bad one to compromise on for the Rs. With all due respect to Mark Levin, my favorite, this was not at all a bad deal for either side. Certainly not this early in the game.

Lastly, maintaining tax rates does not devastate the economy - tax hikes do. To stimulate the economy you make tax CUTS. You see, the government doesn't CREATE wealth and as Obama found to his chagrin, there are no such things as "shovel-ready jobs" like he thought there were. You make a couple trillion dollars fiat money and that doesn't put everyone to work building highways, unfortunately. All it does is create enormous debt. If you want the economy to grow, government has to GET OUT OF THE WAY of business so it can DO business and put people to work earning sweet sweet dough. That's how the real world works.

I was an enthusiastic supporter and volunteer in Mr. Obama's 2008 campaign, but I am very disappointed with his presidency so far. I was disappointed that he did not fight for a public option in the health care reform bill. I was disappointed that he did not close the Guantanamo Bay prison. I was disappointed that he did not allow investigations of high ranking Bush administration officials who authorized the use of torture. I was disappointed that he escalated the war in Afghanistan.

Ok you mixed them in together but let me pick 'em apart for you. He DID fight for a public option and wasn't able to get it if he wanted his health care plan to go through at all. I don't know why since he had both houses firmly stacked, but that's just how it went. They had to pick something out of that monstrosity, and that was the bit that got taken out of that MASSIVE chunk of bill. He got the rest of it through, or did you miss that part?

Now, Guantanamo Bay - you see, I know he WANTED to do that and YOU wanted him to do that but that was never going to happen. Because once he got there, you see, he found out that you really CAN'T do that. You really CAN'T, as we've tried to explain to you for YEARS now, simply let terrorist enemy combatants loose in the world, and the civil court is certainly not equipped to deal with them. So there has been a stalemate, or another sort of compromise - you don't set them loose or bring them through civil court, and we won't put them in front of a tribunal as SHOULD be done. See how that works? They get to live - in comfort - but they don't get OUT. Until we can get them properly before tribunals, that's how it's going to have to be, and Obama had to face this hard REALITY pretty quickly. You haven't caught on yet is all.

He hasn't brought the troops home and he's escalating efforts in the worst possible area (Afghanistan isn't worth it and doesn't need it) because the man has no foreign policy or military experience, which we told you in the first place. You knew that's what Biden was there for, but Biden is busy eating burritos or something, faking an Indian accent to get into the 7/11. So Joe's a little busy to help with foreign policy decisions. Actually, the man was such an embarrassment they had to shut him up permanently, but we won't talk about that. Many lulz have been denied us that should have been ours from Biden, so I will hold that against you.

At any rate, while he WANTS to simply bring the troops home and declare the Iraq efforts over and done, he was faced with another harsh reality which we have tried ENDLESSLY to explain to you - you SIMPLY. CAN. NOT. DO. THAT. It doesn't work that way. I'll leave it to our friends with military experience to explain to you why this is so. But trust me, it is.

As to "investigating" Bush's policies and trying to prosecute a defunct administration, that was never going to happen. I don't even believe he made any promises to that effect, either. You see, that takes years for one thing. For another thing, he actually has access to the information now, and he knows your rhetoric was mostly all bullshit and there's nothing to prosecute. Caterpillars do not equal torture no matter how you spin it. And while he was wasting his time dicking around trying to find something and prosecute the previous administration, he wouldn't have had a single moment to ram through all the pork you demanded. Which he DID. So you ought to be really, really glad he didn't waste his time on that bullshit.

Extending the Republican tax cuts for the rich is the last straw for me. I can no longer call myself a supporter of President Obama. I hope he will step aside at the end of his term and let other Democrats who actually believe in Democratic principles and policies run for president in 2012.

Slight correction - maintaining current tax rates for everyone. There, fixed it for you. Step aside for another Dem? Who in the hell else do you think is going to be able to A) win and B) get what you want done? You fool! But OK; I have no problem with him stepping aside. Bring it on; whoever you want.

And then I clicked the link to unsubscribe from the Organizing for America email list. I didn't do it lightly. I have thought of doing it before, but never actually did it.

Maybe it was my memory of the weekends I spent walking neighborhoods, knocking on doors, passing out literature and attempting to persuade people to vote for this man in the crucial swing state of Virginia.

Yeah I remember that to. He told you to "get in their faces", remember that? He told you to go to the barbershops and beauty shops and your neighbors and get in their faces and tell them who to vote for. And you did it. Seems a little funny now, doesn't it? Yeah, we thought so too.

I was always hoping that at some point, President Obama would surprise me by restoring the hope I had invested in him in his campaign.

Problem with that, dollface, is that "Hope and Change" were a campaign slogan. There was absolutely no meaning behind it. You can't just say "Hope! Change!" without defining your terms. See, we were real specific with our candidates about what they need to do when they're there, or at least try to do. You voted for an empty suit with an empty slogan with no definition. But I'm sorry your poor little hope was just dashed against the rocks like seafoam. Oh, wait. No, I'm not. You're a filthy hatemongering KOStard and I hate you back.

There is such a deliberate finality about taking the action of unsubscribing from the mailing list of an organization that one used to support strongly and in which one made a significant investment. Finally I did it.

I felt a sick feeling in my stomach and found tears welling up in my eyes. I don't cry easily. I certainly didn't expect that the simple act of unsubscribing from a political mailing list would have such an effect on me, but somehow it did.

Yeah, I think that's the definition of "crying easy." But hey, that's just me. I was sorely disappointed when Fred Thompson dropped out because no one else was suitable, but hey, life goes on. I didn't, like, cry over it.

I think my tears came because of a realization that suddenly hit me full force like a punch in the gut: that Barack Obama will go down in history as a tragic figure, a classic, archetypal example of a man who had so much potential to be a great, transformational leader at a time when the society in which he lived desperately needed such a leader and actually elected him to lead our country in a new direction.

Oh, please. You guys are constantly writing and rewriting and rewriting history before it even happens. You were never taught so you don't have the vaguest concept of history. If the grownups hadn't come in to save him midterm he COULD have gone down as another Carter - an utter failure who led us into some of the deepest misery seen since the Great Depression. Ever hear of the Misery Index? Gas lines? Look into it sometime. But now he won't even get that chance. If he's lucky he'll go down like another Clinton - saved two years in by the efforts of others that he took credit for and got rewarded with a second term for. That's gonna take a hell of a lot of luck, though. Because, see, you didn't count on us. You thought we'd NEVER strike back in significant numbers. You didn't know you'd awoken a sleeping giant with your constant streams of daily invective and utter, mouth-foaming hatred. But you did. The giant am awake now, and he's PISSED. We're done playing pussyfoot with you people. Oh you had it so easy with mild-mannered Bush...you just don't know what's coming your way this time.

And who took the rare opportunity given to him and threw it away, becoming just another typical politician making backroom deals for less than half a loaf -- mere crumbs, in fact, and crumbs spiked with poison -- becoming an accessory to the continued decline of American civilization, shattering the hopes of millions. When he could have been so much more.

Second of all, spare me the damned melodrama - the guy did one HELL of a lot more damage than "crumbs" (poisoned ones! Oh noes!) in the last two years. He and Pelosi rammed through MASSIVE expansions of government and extreme levels of unprecedented debt. Trillions of dollars in fiat money. (By the way, something like 100 billion of that was misprinted, or mixed with properly printed and misprinted...so that money's tied up - it would take them 30 years to sort it by hand, but the machines they figure on something like two years. So some of that sweet sweet stimulus money won't be going to Obama's big business friends for a while.) Obamacare. HUGE expansion in governmental power and damage to the insured. The guy even tried to explain THIS to you - he tried to explain that all the massive government entitlements we have today - Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Welfare, etc. etc. etc. started out one hell of a lot smaller than they are now - it takes time for them to grow you know; but once you start them, unless you defund them immediately they never go away; they just grow. He TRIED to tell you this and you just kept pounding and pounding your drum and wouldn't listen. Remember when he said the Tea Partiers should be thanking him? YOU should be thanking him. He's done every fucking thing you wanted except the things that there is no way to do (like closing club Gitmo and releasing the rats from their tropical cages) and do you thank him? No, you ungrateful sacks of shit.

Instead what you do is scream and cry and throw a big fat tantrum like children who have to go to bed early or can't get that piece of candy RIGHT NOW. And you know why? Because ALL YOU KNOW HOW TO DO IS HATE AND SCREAM AND TEAR THINGS APART, and it's too old to keep doing Bush now, so you stoked up your hate machine again (because life's no fun without it) and threw Obama into it instead this time. This picture kind of blew me away. Yes, that's Obama's chauffeured vehicle leaving, and a homeless man begging for alms. In Chicago. Because after all, Obama did so much good in Chicago. I know he can't stop for beggars on his way to the car, but I have an old book containing representative photos from the first 40 years of Life Magazine, and this is the kind of thing that would have been in there. It's iconic that way.

DURBIN: This is a reality. The deficit faces us. We borrow 40 cents out of every dollar that we spend. We borrow most of it from countries like China. They have become major creditors of the United States and have more power over our economy than we want them too. So dealing with this is not only the right thing economically, it's certainly right from a moral viewpoint. We can't leave this debt to our kids and expect them to shoulder that responsibility, but the reality of the situation is if we hit the brakes now on spending and stimulus, right in the midst of a recovery economy, we could plunge this economy back into recession, with even higher unemployment.

(Sidebar: suddenly they're concerned about leaving our kids debt? That's a laugh.) Ok excuse me, a recovery economy??? When did this recovery start? Why didn't anyone tip me off to it? Oh, I forgot...they're citing the likes of Paul Krugman. IOW they don't have a fucking clue what they're talking about. BACK into recession??? Are you freaking kidding me? BACK into recession? Do these people live in jars? Higher unemployment?? Higher than WHAT? Under Bush it rose to possibly 7.6 which is bad enough (though it wasn't the norm) and under Obama - who swore it couldn't go over 8%, it's now risen pretty much to double digits. We're back in the Carter years, and they're talking about going BACK into a recession from a RECOVERING economy with double-digit unemployment??? And we've got Bernanke TheBenbernank promising to raise inflation and printing tons of fiat money (because God forbid DEFLATION! Oh NOES!) and Krugman recommending an inflation rate of an eventual 28%...and extensions of those sweet sweet unemployment benefits of 2 years total (i.e. welfare, duh) and every day I hear from people who can't get a job making more than they are already making on unemployment (and it's unfortunately all too true)...and a recession rapidly turning into a DEPRESSION...and these geniuses are recommending more of the same because it just wasn't ENOUGH the first time. Never mind that if they'd get the hell OUT of Thebenbernank plan, the stimulus, and all this other nonsense, we might HAVE jobs to get if we're willing. The country is in the hands of utter, utter fools. Who have never run an economy before. Who have NEVER shown an ability to make or keep money and who just want to punish the people who could give us employment and stop taking taxes from people who don't really pay taxes anyway. Burning Holy Books

The "helping them recruit Jihadists" argument is ridiculous - we had done nothing to OBL prior to 9/11 or even the WTC bombing a decade earlier. But burning books in protest? That's dumb. Let the words speak for themselves. On a personal note, Muslims were my allies in the early fight for homeschooling. I know all about HomeGrownJihad, but that isn't what these Muslims were doing. And I am certainly against using Sharia law in our country - assimilate or gtfo. America has a constitution, and we have to start using it again. But religious rights are inviolate, so long as they are your religious beliefs and not law. But burning books in protest? Religious books? WTF is the reason for that? I DO know good people who are Muslim; so long as they want to abide by America's founding intent they can be my peeps. You want to come here (legally) and enjoy what America has built and abide by our laws, I'm fine with you. Yes, I do hope you will end up rejecting what is a false religion, and I do hope to see you in heaven (minus the virgins) but it that's where you are, it's where you are. Ripping some prior quotes and a little commentary by Malkin, let's talk about Mr. "I Won" Obama's new priority of reaching out to the newcomers.

“I probably should have used the word ‘opponents’ instead of ‘enemies’ to describe political adversaries,” Obama admitted Monday. Yeah, PROBABLY.

“We don’t mind the Republicans joining us,” Obama taunted a few weeks ago. “They can come for the ride, but they gotta sit in back.” The unifier.

“They’re counting on young people staying home and union members staying home and black folks staying home,” the fear-mongering agent of hope and change jeered on the campaign trail last month.

“You would think they’d be saying thank you,” he sneered last April, when millions turned out for the nationwide Tax Day tea party protests. THANK YOU, sir, for waking up the sleeping giant.

“I want them just to get out of the way” and “don’t do a lot of talking,” he scoffed in response to prescient critics of the federal trillion-dollar stimulus boondoggle. Well we just talked at the ballot box. It just isn't what you wanted to hear.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer called vocal citizens who protested the federal health care takeover bill during the town hall revolts of 2009 “un-American,” too. Remember? “These disruptions are occurring because opponents are afraid not just of differing views — but of the facts themselves. Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American,” Pelosi and Hoyer blasted in an op-ed piece for USA Today last summer. “Drowning out the facts is how we failed at this task for decades.” Funny, I seem to remember SEIU thugs trying to drown out the Town Hall protestors.

Rep. Alan Grayson of Florida, whom the president hailed as an “outstanding” member of Congress, accused Republicans of wanting elderly people to “die quickly” and of presiding over a “holocaust in America.” But "death panels" was hate speech, right?

In California, entrenched incumbent jerk Pete Stark derided immigration enforcement activists at a town hall by asking: “Who are you going to kill today?” To an elderly constituent who opposed the health care bill, Stark retorted: “I wouldn’t dignify you by peeing on your leg. It wouldn’t be worth wasting the urine.” Holy hell. Could you imagine if Palin dared say something like that to a Democrat??

Remind your representatives as many times as you can that they were elected to be the party of HELL NO. They must endure the jeers of "obstructionists" (I Won, remember?) and suck it up. They had better do their damndest to UNDO the destruction done and DO the good they are supposed to at least try to do. Because they can be out just as well as in. And we have not yet begun to fight.

What am I talking about? I don't know what made me think of her. I was just trawling around, and happened upon Ace of Spades Headquarters, and Iowahawk and Jim Treacher and IMAO and all the good, funny, Tea Party/Conservative spots, and I guess I was just reminded of that whiny little blond girl who had so damn much to say that no one ever wanted to hear during the presidential election. Well, she's still saying it and she's still furious that no one wants to hear it, and she can't believe that no one wants to hear it. It's not a trainwreck, it's more like a little pink Hello Kitty round-cornered baby choo-choo wreck. With bubbles. She honestly doesn't get it. Why does she think she gets all these TV spots or anyone published her books? Because she's so interesting? Of course not, it's because she knows Sarah Palin and they're hoping for some dirt from someone who is openly jealous of her. (No, really, she is openly jealous; she doesn't even try to pretend anything else.) When you literally have to tell a TV interviewer that your book is interesting for all sorts of other reasons than Sarah Palin and he should be interested in those other things so please ask about them NOW, you're really a bubblehead.

Let's link up a couple of her recent articles - one is actually called The Palin Girls Don't Share wherein we are supposed to feel righteous indignation at Meghan being forced to do her own hair and makeup one morning when the Palins were hogging all the makeup artists. She actually likens this to taking the Red Pill in the Matrix, as though her reality is more interesting than the Matrix. (In most cases I'd agree, but in her case, the bubbleheadedness is so strong that I just can't - Mary Poppins is meatier than the stuff this girl writes.) She had never seen anything like the instant phenomenon of Palin, even in all her travels with...John McCain. Well, honey, I hate to break it to you but I wouldn't expect to see something like that traveling with John McCain, whose only contribution in 2000 was to scream "Campaign Finance Reform", which no one - absolutely no one in the whole damn world - could work up the vaguest enthusiasm for except him. The words alone are enough to put me to sleep, something that usually requires a double dose of Ambien. I'm glad to see you don't blame your father, though - since the only good thing he did was introduce Palin to the world before dying a rightful and quiet political death, and got the whole Tea Party movement going and all that good stuff - stuff I know you don't understand with your leftist "big-tent Republican" ideas. I mean Palin was even then the anti-McCain, even when she was using his talking points and supporting his stupid ideas; you knew it wasn't what she was really about. If she hadn't been, it wouldn't have been a race at all, but a vulgar humiliation for your dad, who would have gone down in flames far worse than he did.

But then she gets naughty and here I have to correct her and take issue with her poor little baby heart - she then goes on to say that ALL the Tea Party/Conservative women are just knockoffs of Palin and that's plain horseshit. Michelle Bachmann is no clone; she's a bulldozer all on her own. And get serious; how long has Ann Coulter been around? She was working in the Supreme Court before Palin was on the PTA. What kind of disservice are you doing to women like Michelle Malkin to say she's nothing but a Palin knock-off? Honey, it's not the national obsession that's showing, it's YOUR obsession that's the problem here. So go ahead and write your petty little jealous screeds all you like, but next time don't make the mistake of thinking Palin came first and the rest followed like ducks in a row - she made a tremendous contribution and your father did one thing right in his life by giving her a stage to do it from, but the rest of 'em weren't spawned from her; this is individualism, honey - now go put on some makeup and fix your hair and look pretty for the cameras. And don't forget to dish up all the dirt on Palin you can in your next TV interview; it's the only thing that makes you remotely interesting.

A Brief Hello from Nowhere

Hiya, folks (if you're still there) - just a brief note to let you know I'm still alive and kicking, but have been avoiding the computer and politics like the plague...just one of those life seasons. As a matter of fact, I logged on to my gmail account to find it had been hacked, and I was getting threatening phone calls from a barely intelligible Indian man pretending to be, in turns, a police officer and a lawyer, claiming I was to be sued for thousands of dollars for internet fraud because of an ever-changing amount of money on a debt that never existed. Show ME to go on hiatus, eh? He had all sorts of frightening information, such as our bank account number, last four digits of social, etc. I finally realized it was a scam after a few moments of panic and told him to find another patsy. But he called several more times until my husband took to reading him the bible - he doesn't call anymore. The number the calls came from is on google with several comments from people who he'd attempted the same scam on; who knows how many more caved in and sent the several hundred they were demanding to make it all go away. Heh.

Anyway, I will eventually get back to following politics and enlightening everyone with my wit and wisdom (haha) but right this moment couldn't say exactly when. It's all been a moment-by-moment thing of late. Best to you all and hope this message finds you all well and hale. Namaste.

So I saw this book my daughter's friend was reading and it looked ok and it was about vampires. Ever since Blacula, and Frank Langella's stage/film performance, Salem's Lot and so forth, vampires are, to me, the only legend that has any class. I revered the vampire legend. Ever since people tried to BE vampires and since Twilight, I have reconsidered my stance. Few things have ever sucked so hard.

In this book you start with the most boring, klutzy, inept girl that ever existed, who LOVES searing heat and sunshine. Which makes her evil already. Anyone who LOVES the sun has to suck. Bad.

She goes to a school where she's sure everyone will hate her but instead everyone treats her with a deference that is totally unreal. Except...Edward. His black eyes threaten her and she is completely freaked out,never realizing she might just be an asshole. She falls over her own shoes, trips in volleyball and almost kills someone, and faints at the "smell"of a drop of blood in science class. Did I mention she moved to the most rainy part of the country? Eegads, not so much sun! Gah.

Bella continues to be one of the most disagreeable people ever and everyone continues to kiss her ass, except Edward, theonly one she cares about.

After saving her from a gang of raping rapists, Edward finally brings her home, where itis revealed that they can't go out in the sun because they sparkle. Oooh - scary. Oh, and her Indian friend is a werewolf. Triangle! The most boring triangle ever. Kids go to these movies with "Team Edward" and "Team Jacob" shirts,like it matters. Either way she's fucked. But Bella is begging to be fucked, which is probably thepoint of these movies. Since they are purity movies in thin disguise. On her wedding night Bella wonders if she's going to actually have sex withher husband. WONDERS. Until she decides totally to doit and bear a monster baby that will almost surely kill her. This is the dumbest series, told through the point of view of the dumbest protagonist ever. Read Salem's Lot or Dracula instead. You'll get a lot more outof it. Better yet, read the first 4 Anne Rice novels. It's hella gay, but it totally rocks.

I don't have much to say - Chappaquiddick, open treason (covertly attempting to aid the Soviets during Reagan's presidency to help them defeat his anti-Soviet plans), booze-soaked career politician who only stayed there because of his name and not because of anything he ever did, because he never did anything good. I have to say, along with Frank J at IMAO, that I'm only now coming to terms with how insane it really was to have him in there all. these. freaking. years. How did that even work? Who was insane or amoral enough to keep putting him in there? What made anyone think he should be in charge of *anything* much less American people? Well, I don't feel any obligatory "Oh his poor family" coming on - I don't really give a fuck. He did far more harm than plenty of others and it's past time he was gone for good anyway.
