Those Were the Days - Random Nostalgia

...When people knew veganism was extreme. When even vegetarianism was a kook fringe.

I'm a vegetarian.

Uh... but I've never been a radical leftist (i.e., a vegan). I've never splashed spinach juice on a woman's fur coat.

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were vegetarian during their captivity. They weren't going to eat the king's diet, or something. And they looked more hale and hearty than the other schlubs. So don't mistake me.

Let me explain what brought this on - there's FatHead and the discoveries made or re-made therein. I clicked on a "diet" ad yesterday and was stunned to see that they had already incorporated the advice (without any credit) into diet plans - animal fats, coconut oil, i.e. eggs, butter, coconut oil, olive oil, avocados, etc. and explained how it's high glycemic foods - whole wheat bread, "health" cereals, starches in general, that convert to sugar and trigger insulin thus weight gain, staying AWAY from vegetable oils like corn and regular veg. oil.

What I then noticed is that they clearly left out reference to meat, and getting animal fat through meat, which, for people who eat meat, is perfectly acceptable, healthy and non-fattening. But it works as a vegetarian diet! Dairy - butter, milk, eggs etc. are ok. But then I realized, there was NO WAY IN THE WORLD to incorporate the heart-healthy diet with VEGANISM. Veganism IS extreme and there's nothing healthy about it. Even the principles are idiotic - no honey, because the bees aren't giving it voluntarily?? No eggs? No milk/dairy? There was one person among the fat bloggers who would make vegan posts and say how veganism was the only really ethical option, and coming as it did among advice to eat when hungry, to eat what you enjoy and want, to not worry about your body type, the insistence was jarring.

I rather thought it was cruel to think of all the cows in captivity not having a job anymore if we all stopped eating cheese and milk, what is supposed to be done with them? They can't be set free; they aren't wild animals. You have to stop taking milk slowly or they die of exsanguination. So WHO'S ethical, bitches?

Anyway, I know you're not obnoxious lol. And you should eat the way you believe you should for whatever reasons. No complaints on that score.

Now do you have any random nostalgia I can post? I think it's a funny premise.

HA!-HA!-HA!
I've read the Holy Bible in its entirety like 14 or 15 times and I don't recall seeing the word "schlubs" in it. (You're PRICELESS!)

Oh, you didn't need to explain all that because I wasn't the least bit offended by what you posted. I actually saw it as a good opportunity to point out that not all vegetarians are wacko Leftist nutcases like those PETA and Earth First fruitcakes are. Believe me, I took no offense AT ALL!

Oh, c'mon, Sistah! I'm 51 years old; I've got nostalgia growin' outta my ears (along with the undesirable hair).

I could think of oodles and oodles of good nostalgia for you to post. But since you started with "All In The Family"...

I found the following URLs for ya. The first one is one of the all-time CLASSIC, more memorable moments from "All In The Family", but I love the others too.

As far as the last one goes... if you don't wish to post the video on YOUR website, please let me know because, if not, I will damn sure post it on MINE:

I hope you enjoy these - I did:

Haha! A sock and a sock and a shoe and a shoe! Do it right next time, and do it that way for the rest of your life.

Which of course calls to mind, "Shoe-bootie."

To a degree he's right about meat - from the days of Cain and Abel. One farmed and offered his firstfruit, and the other offered a goat, right? Which wasn't why one was accepted and the other not, but it demonstrates that yes, meat was there from the beginning and yes, it had to do with sacrifices as well. The temple priests, considering the offerings and what they ate, can you imagine how meat-based that diet was?? Even I might get sick of it, though I often feel I can't get enough meat, or that I don't get enough. (I don't, but that's because food costs are pretty rough.)

ALRIGHT! You do know your 'All In The Family', don't you?

The "shoe-bootie" episode is probably my all-time favorite. It wasn't by any stretch one of the funnier episodes, but O'Connor's acting was just off-the-charts fabulous in that episode! In fact, I think it was the greatest acting ever seen in any television episode!

I am currently in the process of collecting all of the DVD sets for every season of "All In The Family". But when I made the decision to start buying them, the first thing I did was start Googling to find out which season the "Shoe-Bootie" episode appeared in, because that was the DVD set I was going to buy first.

And... although I myself am a vegetarian, I have no problem with anyone eating meat. An old girlfriend of mine used to laugh because we'd be in a restaurant and she might be eating steak and I'd say, "Ooh, that piece right there looks really good! Eat that piece next and tell me if it's as tender as it looks."

But even when I was still a carnivore (prior to 1985), I didn't eat steak often. It seems odd, but the only two types of meat that I still kind of miss are chorizo (spicy Mexican sausage), and those little Vienna sausages that come in a can. If I ever fall off this wagon, one of those two meatish forms (does anybody really know what's in them?) will be my downfall.
