Anyone Here Seen My Old Friend Fred?

Can you tell me where he's gone? More important, can you tell me why this genius ended up on the scrapheap while we got saddled with fucking MCCAIN???!!! The one primary candidate who had an economic clue - the only ONE - and who had the ability to explain CLEARLY, SUCCINCTLY and in LAYMAN'S terms (entertaining terms as well) just exactly what it all meant, and we got MCCAIN instead?

It's a thought to slit your wrists by, it really is. But enjoy watching Fred. God grant we can put this guy in the driver's seat where he actually BELONGS next time.

While you're thinking about the economic situation, take a look at this. He links to the original lunatic screed he's eviscerating, so you can look at that too, if you must. I think the excerpts are sufficient for that bigoted, mentally retarded, hate-riddled nonsense; yet the nonsensical hate screed is published in Salon - what the hell is wrong with you media people? If people don't get chills down their spine by the constant calls for **MASSIVE FEDERAL EXPANSION OF POWER** in order to - IN ORDER TO - squash Southern businesses because they are actually succeeding, then the blatant and vicious bigotry ought to make them furious anyway. The premise would be funny if the hatred weren't so visceral and if it weren't being published in a major publication. At any rate, this guy puts that nonsense right in its proper place quite handily, and I highly recommend reading it. Since what we are facing right now IS a massive expansion of federal power, and since it is actually genuinely possible to face a coming civil war if power grabs continue and expand. Good times.

I said all along that it was people spending money they didn't have that got us into this mess (because heaven forbid they have to wait and save for something they want, and you know you they just have to have everything more and better than everyone else), and spending more money we don't have sure as fuck isn't going to get us out of it, but what do I know? I've only lived on a shoestring budget for all of my fucking 55 years of life. Hell, I still have clothes in my closet (that I'm wearing) that I've had for 15 years. DH and I are of the opinion that for things like furniture, appliances, clothing, groceries, gas for the cars, etc, if we can't afford to pay cash for it, then we either can't afford it or don't need it. The only two things we've financed lately were a loan to pay a lawyer to get our mortgage modified, and to replace my minivan. Both of those loans will be paid off in 13 months. We need another washer/dryer, but we're saving the money for those (ours are still working, for now). Until people learn to live on a budget (and that goes for the government too), we're never going to dig ourselves out of this hole. It's consume, consume, consume, and who gives a rat's ass if you really need it, buy it anyway so the big corporations can keep making their billions of dollars of profit. Trickle down economics is not going to work, it never has. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer, and the middle class is next-to-non-existent anymore.

"if we can't afford to pay cash for it, then we either can't afford it or don't need it" - yeah, that's how we live too. Only thing we end up paying on "time" is our mortgage and our income tax. Then again it isn't like anyone will extend us credit - I've always wondered how other people who never made any more than us and who were no better risks got extended so much credit when we never could get any. But better off without it lol.

Unfortunately it's not the corporations getting rich now; it's the federal government, and that's scarier. A corporation can't put me in prison if I don't pay dues to it. (shudder)

I read that piece of drivel in Salon.

I've seen this movie several times before. The "Big Three" automakers have whined before that the American public are big stupid-head meanies for not buying the crap that they make.

I'd rather buy a Nissan made by Americans, than a Ford made in Canada or Mexico.

All this misplaced rage at what the South is doing TO Detroit is just laughable.

Did you read the follow up comments in Salon? People advocating throwing out the old Confederate states from the US, (hell, ALL those red-states!) and people wistfully regretting the incomplete genocide of the South in the War of Northern Aggression.

Just replace "Redneck" with "Jew" and tell me how those sentiments read.
