Random, Announcement, Movie review

Well, we all love a man in uniform.

Ok, nobody ever really believes the true story of a black eye (even the person who has one) but it really was a stupid accident. Doesn't hurt much but I look like Rocky yelling "Yo, Adrienne, I did it!" So in the interest of never letting that happen again, and since I'm getting too old for this stuff, screw it. No more booze. I'll miss it but I'll live. In the meantime no mirrors for me and lots of ice. Anyway I mention it because I might not be blogging until the world is 3-d again and the other eye isn't straining. Don't worry; this is not an emergency; this is a test. If it had been an actual emergency you'd have been alerted where to go. (Except when it finally happened we totally weren't.)

So...don't you think it would be cool if alchemy worked? I'm pretty sure it doesn't.

Dirty mind, it's a GUITAR.

It's not photoshop. It's a male bird of paradise (otherwise known as a wtf?) attracting a mate. The females apparently like 70s fad t-shirts.

OK I was going to do a review of Of Mice and Men but not now; someone's sleeping in here. So I'll get back to it then go on a little vacation (a week should do it...sorta - actually it's already a lot better today, though it probably LOOKS worse. I really bruise like a grape. If grapes bruised. Maybe apples.) And the stupid things don't even show up most of the time until they're done hurting. Idiot bruises.

Am I the only person in the world who doesn't like poetry at all? Especially if it doesn't rhyme. It's IMO the worst stuff Poe turned out (his Scheherazade story was awesome, though). Ok I had a book full of dirty limericks written by Isaac Asimov and that's as far as I go. Ok and Martin Buxbaum's book (it's rather sing-songy and sort of shallow) and of course Now We Are Six by A.A. Milne. But that's it.

Well, there is at least one reader whom you can count on being here when you return. Don't be gone too long, OK?

And yes, there is life after booze. Ain't sayin' it's pretty though - not as colorful as a black eye.

On the other hand, there is something to be said for sobriety and a life free of the 'black and blue booze bruise'.

Ha!

I'm sort of half with you on this question. I do like poetry, but not much of it. And I agree that rhyming poetry is best.

In my youth, I wrote some of both types. But it seems that pseudo-writers got it into their heads that they could put pretty much any words they wanted together and call it (free-form) "poetry". Most of it stinks. Most of it sounds like high school girl love notes inked in big loopy flowery handwriting on notebook covers with the i's dotted by hearts or daisys.

But even when I was writing non-rhyming poetry (and I too am probably playing fast and loose with the word "poetry"), I chose my words and arranged them very carefully with a thought toward some sort of structure, even if it was "everything-goes-Free-Verse".

But take the rhyming out of poetry and the real challenge is gone. It's not too surprising that people like us - more thinker than feeler - aren't overly drawn to poetry.

I totally LOVE A.A. Milne. I know I've read "Now We Are Six", but that was so long ago that I really don't remember it. But I think the Winnie The Pooh books are great, and "The House At Pooh Corner" is one of my all-time, all-time favorites! That final chapter - Chapter X, "An Enchanted Place" - that has to be the saddest writing in the English language; God knows it makes me cry!

A couple of poets I really do like: Can't forget Dr. Seuss, and I also think Shel Silverstein wrote some really clever stuffs.

Gah I lost an entire comment - hate that!! But yeah, after a pretty normal hangover I'm feeling fine, so no worries; I'm stubborn enough to do it :P Booze bruise lol.

Yes, A.A. Milne is beautifully written - it's one author you have to actually see printed on the page to fully appreciate, in a class of its own. Wasn't thinking of Seuss, but yeah, I love him too - Hop on Pop was one of my favorites as a tiny kid. Some people don't like Shel but I think he's funny.

Heh...and yeah I'd say we all wrote more than a few in our times, but not that rambling random shit - I don't know when it started but Morrison did it (jeez, ride the snake to the lake? He's old and his skin is cold? And those are just his stupid lyrics) and it was going on before him too. Unpleasant!

Glad you liked the bird; that picture really tickles me. Birds are so funny.

In other words, I may not actually need a break at all, since I'm not sick or anything. I thought I might be. But again, remember Douglas Adams - Don't Panic! Hehe; all is well that ends well.

Oh, yeah, Jim Morrison - loved him in my teen years, but that stuffs just did not hold up.

Except, of course, for the lines: "Woke up this morning and I got myself a beer; The future's uncertain and the end is always near."

All of the Punk Rock songs combined never expressed nihilism so well.

And, to be honest, I will ALWAYS be able to get my groove on to the song "Peace Frog".

I don't dislike Doors music in particular (I don't love it in particular either) - I was really just thinking of his awful poetry lol. Or whatever you call that crap.

Heh; he didn't even write the lyrics to Light My Fire, right? That was the other guy. Not Menzarek or whatever, the other one.

Anyway I enjoy a bit of Doors :)
