Images

The Helter Skelter image came from a google image search, which turned up the unexpected result of this amusement ride, which is available for sale or hire. I find the most interesting things on image searches, and the weirder, the better. I kind of think Helter Skelter doesn't call up the witchy imagery it does for many Americans, who tend to think of the Tate-LaBianca murders and mad-eyed crazy men with swastikas on their heads and shaven young deluded women when they hear the term.

I'm looking at the older gent in the pic, and from his body language I'm reading that he's regretting his lot in life. During his childhood he must have had alot of wonderful dreams about what he wanted to be when he grew up, and running a carnival attraction wasnt one of those dreams. Not even close. Now he's sitting there wondering how he wound up like this. I genuinely feel sorry for that guy.

Since I read the book when I very young, 11, I think, the words do recall those images for me. It's kind of sad that they do. I was very impressionable, too much so at that age. I shouldn't have read the book, but then again books were not censored in our house. It made a lasting impression on me in more ways than one. For a long time I wanted to be a forensic pathologist. The thing that stopped me was the years of schooling required.

What a cool thing to notice, RF. Thanks :)

Phthaloblu, I didn't read Helter Skelter; I read Bugliosi's book, "The Family" (very good) but that was as an adult. Books weren't really censored in our house either, but television was, and the miniseries Helter Skelter came out at a time when I wasn't allowed to see it. All my friends at school were talking about it, but considering how scary it is even now, I really can't believe their parents let them watch such a thing.

I know. I have trouble watching movies about serial killers in general. And since I had kids I can't watch any movies where there is child abuse depicted or kids getting hurt. Too close to home. I can watch or read any Stephen King book or movie because they are fictional monsters. But, serial killers exist and they are true to life monsters. I find it disturbing that these fuckheads have fans of fucked up women who want to have a relationship with them once they're in prison. Sociopaths are incapable of relationships and of having a conscience.
