A: Absinthe, Antarctica, Anarchy

That's what the American Absinthe looks like; it's a snazzy black bottle and was only put back on the market fairly recently...they outlawed it for a long time. Unfortunatelyit's very expensive; - looks like it's gone down some but it was almost 70 dollars a bottle. For the higher wormwood content European stuff, which you have to order from Europe itself, it's more like $300 a bottle. Ouch. So it's been quite some time since I've had it. If you can afford it I highly recommend giving it a go. It's quite unlike any other drink, and the effect isn't really like being drunk; it's more like being in an altered state altogether.

If you DO try it, however, go to the site and see how to properly louche it first - don't make the mistake I did and just drink it. Like the guy says in the instruction video, you'd have to be insane to drink it straight. Now he tells me.

Quite interesting; they provide a little metal strainer which is put atop the glass with a sugar cube on it, and you gently pour a tiny stream of ice-cold water over it...as it hits the liquid, you can watch it cloud up and get thick. You can even by a loucher that lets off a steady stream of water. Good stuff.

Antarctica Condition ONE weather- my god, COVER IT! It's like the passage to hell!

Anarchy? No, not the cookbook, the ideology. I can't tell you how many times I've been accused of promoting anarchy (or, swing the other way and they'll tell you I'm promoting Nazi fascism; either way they get it wrong.) I'm sorry, free markets coupled with common law protections are anarchy? And how exactly did the National Socialists promote either one? The comparisons just don't add up, my friend.

Oh yeah, I have been meaning to try that stuffhere. They have it at the base shoppette for a bit less, not much less, but a bit. Antarctica is always a beast, and that anarchy thing is actually starting to sound good!

Better anarchy than a nanny state. But I'll still go with a constitutionally limited federal government and free markets. ;)

And the IRS is really coming at us; I owed about 2K and they're trying to charge us almost 8...as if. Apparently if you don't file they get really testy.

Oh, and let me know if you end up trying the lovely drink - I tell you, if you can spare the money it was really worth it.

The nicest thing about it was that where I could down a whole bottle of pretty much anything else; I never made it past half of one of these - more than enough! So you're pretty much guaranteed at least a couple good flings out of one bottle ;)

I had wanted to try Absinthe for the longest time because of all the stuffs I'd heard and read about it. Not to mention (although I'm about to do just that) it was Vincent Van Gopher's drink of choice.

A couple of years ago, when it was finally made legal here, I tried three different imported brands of the stuffs. I didn't drink it the fancy European way, with the sugar and the water and all that. I just drank it the manly American way - I just drank it.

Frankly, I was kinda disappointed as it didn't really live up to the years of build-up. I thought all three of them tasted like a less pronounced Ouzo with higher alcohol content. I had to guzzle some of the most potent Everclear available - which, incidentally, is legal here in Airheadzona (and which might actually explain a few things about this state) - in order to get that Absinthe taste out of my mouth.

As for "Anarchy" - some other folks and I briefly discussed that term in the comment section of another conservative blog that I "Follow". Here's the URL in case you want to take a look:

Anniee, this is Saturday. Where your Blog Bit for "B" be?

Good luck with that constitutionally limited federal government thing...

And look on the bright side-soon gasoline will be more expensive than absinthe!

Haha Stephen; I'm trying to think up a third word for B; I've got bullwhip and bubblething so far. But without a little something more it's way too lame. And I want something good. I was going to make fun of my brother, but it just didn't hang right.

So you drank the stuff straight and still didn't get schnockered? Well giggity giggity AwRIGHT. I'm not the biggest lush here :D We can get everclear here; I didn't realize it was illegal some places. Well, maybe give the Lucid a try; I don't know how high the content of the wormwood stuff was in whatever you bought; but the lucid really is strong enough. And it was a very pleasant dreamy sort of buzz...very nice. And yes, it was almost like an Ouzo or a Sambuca, but...there was something else to it, too; something I've never tasted before. Or smelled. My daughter hated it. (More for me; not that I would have let her have more than one small glass anyway.) I don't even use "capitalism" along with free-market; I know what people associate "capitalism" with, even smart people. I just say free markets and common law (as I don't think either is any good without the other. Though, as I said above, still better anarchy than a nanny state.)

Hey, Disc, you're right...gas is already getting close, ain't it? And our other utility bills are just climbing away too. Nasty stupid president-fueled depressions; how I hate them. Some of our reps are still fighting the good fight; the new ones. They're even talking about getting rid of Boehner. At least somebody is in there giving it the old college try. We could still win. Heh, don't take ALL my hope just yet, eh?

I would do breastfeeding, but since I have an almost exclusive male audience, I'll let you all off the hook there ;)

What, are you kidding? That is the VERY REASON you SHOULD have done "Breastfeeding"! (Sheesh! You women will NEVER understand us men!)

Oh, honey, as long as I've been "Following" your blog you were NEVER the biggest lush here. :o) Have you never visited my Blogspot Profile Page and seen what I have listed as my "Profession"?

OK, seriously, my friend, I tried the Absinthe in a variety of ways - straight, with a little water, and I think I even tried a couple of different mixers, like soda water, etc. Just didn't care for the taste of it.

But, hey, I'm not saying that the stuffs couldn't knock someone on their muffins. I mean, it's like 125 proof or so. Sure, I could get "laminated" on it if I drank enough. Anyone who couldn't get laminated on Absinthe died of cirrhosis of the liver years ago! No question, that's "Heavy Hooch".

But, as you know, different types of booze deliver different types of buzzes, and which buzz iz best might depend on the individual chemical make-up of the booze hound.

For me, Beer is a lethargic buzz; I don't like it. Tequila drives me insane - I'll either kill my drinking buddies or wind up in a Mexican jail for initiating a street-fight I could never win against my biological Brother as he is on his way to a hotel with a woman he's just picked up. (True story, I'm sorry to say.)

For me, the best buzz is either Red Wine or "GraMar" (Grand Marnier On The Rocks). Now we're really talkin' "Happy Hour".

But, truth be told, I'm nothing like the booze hound I once was, and I mostly joke about it for effect. I'm sure you imbibe more than I do these days.

Hell, there's no point in my drinking heavily anymore, since all my old favorite Pass-Out locations have been turned into parking lots.

>>...We can get everclear here; I didn't realize it was illegal some places.

Well, there are a few different strengths of the stuffs available, and it's not all legal in all states. I think the most potent (which is legal here in Airheadzona) is like 197 proof or thereabouts. That's as strong as it gets.

I'm enjoying your "A To Z" posts. You seem to be having fun, and it's rubbing off on me.

Ok, condition 1 weather is not for me. Give me baking hot, humid, sticky summer in the south weather every time. I'll even drink the absinthe as I sit on my porch steaming. Nice post, Annie. Love reading your stuff. ;)
